i have updates~
weathering with you absolutely made me cry and i would argue it has a better plot and by that logic is better than your name.
yuri time; finished bloom into you, disappointing by ending but also feels.
if i hear beastars one more time i will watch it and give hot takes.

I did finish watching Beastars and I did enjoy it, I wouldn't say it's as good as everyone made it out to be but it was still a pretty good watch.
I'm now watching the second season/part of Ascendance of a bookworm. I'm not sure what it is about this show but I find it really enjoyable. On paper it sounds like a really dull show but I don't feel that way about it at all. Plus the work building is really good. And once I'm finished with that I'm probably going to watch make a start on Tower of god.

I skipped Ascendance because it sounds boring but I'll go back and give it a shot based on that glowing review.
Tower of God is good. Not amazing but good. It feels like it falls heavily into the shonen trap of "and now very little happens cause this show has 500 episodes." I would say the pace of the first season isn't bad but there is some feet dragging and that really turns me off. I kind of think it's happening because it was a web toon comic which is weekly comics so they can drag a bit based on that too.

Haha, I wouldn't call it a glowing review but in that case, let me know your thoughts after watching a few episodes. I'm curious to know if others actually find it interesting in the same way I do because even now I can't really put my finger on why I like it. Oh, and be warned that the artwork is pretty lacking compared to some of the more well know shows and there are some pretty unintentionally terrifying facial expressions going on in the opening of the second season because of it 😂

I tried, and failed, to get into Jojo. I may try it again some time in the future though. I watched FMA: Brotherhood before I properly got hooked on anime so I'm looking forward to rewatching it now that I'm more of an anime connoisseur and I'm currently working my way through Tower of God. So far I've been pleasantly surprised, though I haven't watched enough to give a proper verdict yet.
@C0FFINCASE I get what you mean, I don't think I mind long running stuff if I get in on it right at the start like with this but the thought of watching something that already has 100+ episodes is a hard pass for me 😅

Man I totally agree with that, anime is something I enjoy like a fine wine haha. Though I do partake of the 'boxed wine' that is JJBA, another really good couple I've noticed if you haven't seen would be the rising of the shield hero, black clover, and Gakuen Heaven(if you're into yaoi at all it's a great slice of life.) Or if you prefer I do have some others that might tickle the palette
I've heard Tower of God is good but haven't given it a proper chance yet. Will definitely have to check it out~!Complacency Kills

I just finished season one of Tower or God and, without spoiling anything for anyone who is planning on watching it, I'd just like to say "Fuck that bitch!". 😂

@everyone saying they can't get into Jojo. first half of season 1 is kinda rough but it gets A LOT better.
From the spring 2020 season that just ended I watched kaguya-sama, Tower of God, Sing Yesterday to Me, My Next Life as a Villainess, Shokugeki no Souma(though we only got like 3 episodes in spring, I think they're continuing in the summer season), Kakushigoto, Ascendance of a Bookworm, Ahiru no Sora (continued from winter 2020) and Digimon Adventure (same as Shokugeki, they restarted this weekend).
Not sure which ones I'm picking up for the summer 2020 season yet. Any suggestions are welcome.

Since my last post, I watched through Demon slayer and I re-watched season 1 of Overlord. I was going to watch Vinland saga next but I think I'm going to watch "From the New World" instead.
@c0ffincase I've never watched any of the Avatars, I tend to avoid anything with too many seasons but do you think they're worth watch if you've never seen it before or do you need the nostalgia?
@oxer7 I've not watched Psycho pass, I think I was put off by the similarities to Minority report and the futuristic police setting but I watched IDnvaded last season and didn't mind the similar setting in that so I might give it a go at some point.
@kingz I rate both of those shows, solid picks! 😅 Apparently there's also a bunny girl senpai OVA movie with really good reviews. Not sure if it's a continuation or just a condensed version of the series and I can't watch for more seasons of reincarnated as a slime!
- 25 Jul. 2020 01:55am #179
ID invaded is in my to-watch-list. I'm watching Gleipnir atm. It's okayish i guess.
Vindland Saga is so good. I recommend you watch it!

I wouldn't sat ID Invaded is a must watch or anything, I was just hooked by the premise; I'm a sucker for unique world building. And I saw a trailer for Gleipnir at the start of the season, seemed pretty edgy 😅 but I really can't talk, I started watching "The misfit of demon king academy" the other day. Sometimes you just need a small dose of trash anime. 😂

At the rate I'm binging through anime I can't even remember the list of animes I've finished since the last time I checked here but currently waiting on updates for Sword Art Online: Alicization. I'm not choosy on what I watch.

Avatar definitely holds up, you should watch it. As Coffin said, it doesn't feel that long. If anything, at least watch the last airbender.
Clearly not if you're still watching SAO...
I think adding the kids in slime is a breath of fresh air.

Interesting, that still seems like too many episodes to me but I might give it a watch at some point; if only, just too see what I've been missing out on.
Haha, not directed at me but SAO is like my guilty pleasure, the urge to watch the new the new episode each week this season was pretty strong but I managed to fight it so I can binge it when it's finished.
It was the show that got me hooked on anime in general after all. For the longest time I was worried about rewatching the original two seasons because I might realize how shit it was, and while I could definitely see that, I still enjoyed it on rewatch so say what you will about me. That being said there are definitely better isekai out there, even if they are over-saturating the market. I'm excited for more Log horizon for example.
There's also meant to be more Kings Avatar soon too, though I'm unsure when either will air because of the pandemic.
It amused me looking back to the start of this thread, in my first post I claimed that I don't watch much anime at all, which was true, then next post says I watched SAO and now look at me. I'm an anime watching fiend!
I mentioned it in my last post but I'm really enjoying "From the new world" (Shinsekai yori) at the moment, I'm glad I put off watching Vinland for it because I'm loving the world building. I'm not even half way in and I have so many questions. I watched the first episode last year and decided not to bother because it seemed to slow but I'm glad to say that it definitely picks up pretty rapidly after that.Last edited by Cyanoxide; 03 Aug. 2020 at 10:49pm.

I agree. The Civ development is cool and the power fantasy is cool. I think it's a more passive show. I like researching tech trees in video games so I like watching Slime but often feel like the battles distract from the best parts of the show.
I want more of both of those and Overlord but who knows when that will happen. Some shows never come back. Even when they say they will.
Alright, I am seldom a "manga did it better person" unless the anime is pure butchery but for SAO, when the craze first hit I went and got all of the fan-translated SAO light novels. SAO is way better as a book. Plus the author constantly apologies for not knowing how to write strong, female characters and berates himself.

I went in with low expectations but I was actually pleasantly surprised with Alicization, or at least the first season. I didn't find the first half of the latest season all that memorable though, I'm hoping the same can't be said for the second half but I'm not holding my breath.
I was interested in the world they built but I felt that it didn't really feel like SAO. It just felt like a random fantasy anime rather than an isekai. My ultimate hope, and I know this is doubtful, is that once they finish Alicization they decided to give the original SAO series the FMArotherhood treatment and fix all the issues it has and add more depth to it. I would love to see a whole season just for the first arc. I believe they did something to that effect in the novels but I might be misremembering that.Last edited by Cyanoxide; 03 Aug. 2020 at 07:46pm.

SO I totally missed that Goblin Slayer had a movie, that Konosuba had a movie, and that SNAFU got a 3rd season. Excited to check them out.
SAO's writing in Alicization has been pretty disapointing on the back end. There were some great ideas about virtual souls and stuff in the middle that just sort of get abandoned in favor of making Alice more of a plot point but then that gets dropped for Kirito and Asuna being in danger(again)and then we have super friends roll call with dead people. I don't know, it gets cheesy and overdone.

I didn't know that Goblin slayer had one either until now 😂 I knew about Konosuba and I've heard good things about it but I haven't watched it myself. Maybe at some point but I don't tend to watch many of the OVA's for whatever reason.
Haha yeah, that sounds about right. I'll give it a watch in a few weeks when it's all caught up and get my yearly SAO fix.
You haven't missed all that much really. There's not really been anything of note to watch and all the new seasons are a few weeks out before finishing up. The only things I've watched are Bofuri and Gleipnir from last season, neither of which are particularly noteworthy and Misfit of Demon King Academy from this season; again, not really all that worth watching unless you just want to put something mindless on in he background.
If you like the animation in Beastars, check out Land of the Lustrous if you haven't already, it's what the same studio made last season, or maybe the season before that. I personally enjoyed it more than Beastars but Beastars definitely wins in the visual department and that stop motion intro was sick! 😅
I'm probably going to rewatch re:zero some time soon, or perhaps watch the directors cut in time for the new season being ready to binge.
I'm looking forward to watching Deca-dence and I might watch Rent-a-girlfriend too but it's mostly new seasons of existing shows like SAO and Re:zero this time around.

So I watched the Konosuba movie and it was honestly pretty disappointing. Kazumais always kind of a perv but its his only character trait in the movie. I don't know. Thestory felt disjointed and like the characters all got reduced in personality.
I started watching Monster Girl Doctor which is exactly what it sounds like but I've enjoyed it. I keep meaning to start Rent but haven't.
I did check out the reimagination of Digimon. It's not bad but it felt much more "monster of the week" than the origional which was not inspiring.

Aww, that's a shame. To be honest though, that's normally the case with the OVA movies, I guess I'll hold on that one. I've still got the original Digimon on my "plan to watch" list, I think because you said the Japanese version was way better. I was kinda hoping the reboot would be decent but that's a shame.
---
I'm currently working my way through Deca-dence as it finished airing last week. I was drawn in with the first episode, then a reveal in the second episode put me off a bit but I kept going and it seems like it was worth it to stick at it as it didn't take long at all for me to get reinvested with the story. I can't really explain much about it without giving stuff away but the first episode and the world have a bit of a gurren lagann vibe which I quite liked
I also watched the new season of SAO and it was pretty much just what I expected it would be. There were however some decent fight scenes, particularly one near the start with Bercoli, the art work for it was incredible compared to anything else in the season (or any of the others for that matter). I think there was another fight scene later that had similar treatment but it wasn't as cool. They did announce that they're rebooting the SAO anime though which is pretty cool, I'm pretty sure I left a post on here a few months back hoping that they would.
I think once I finish Deca-dence I'm going to watch either rent-a-girlfriend or re:zero depending on what I'm in the mood for.

The first half of Alicization is so good and the last half is so bad. Everything after defeating the Administrator is so overworked and goofy. By the end, they aren't even using system calls or anything within a "game" framework they just "feel things." I was really turned off by the heavy weird fan service with for some reason yet again more rape. There is a lot of things I like in SAO and I enjoy the series most of the time but the last 1/3rd of every season tries to incorporate the B & C side casts by shoving the female characters into dubious situations and often with the threat of rape. It's lazy and disrespectful given that they constantly try to have strong female characters in the show. Which it could have been avoided if we did have to magic everyone from every season into the final showdown.

If you're talking about the scene I think you are, with Leafa and the witch, apparently the producer got into a whole lot of trouble because of it and rightly so. Damn it, I had just about erased it from my memory too. 😂 It was so unnecessary. I mean they are all unnecessary but that one particularly so, it didn't even serve to further the plot in some way.

I know that pain! The amount of times I've grabbed a film or TV show and it's been dubbed in Spanish or some shit I think I'm been lucky with my anime this far though. Probably because I normally stream most of it.
I'm about half way through Rent-a-girlfriend btw. It's definitely not my typical content but it's alright.
