Welcome to my thread, everyone.
We need to come up with new ways to bring more members to Logical Gamers.
Feel free to post your ideas, but this thread must stay on topic. Please discuss all ideas an equal amount, and do not stray too far on a single idea. All ideas are accepted, all ideas are considered. No idea is considered dumb, unless it was posted to plainly troll us and not be helpful.
So, current list of ideas, will update as people post them:
- Removing Sub Forums
We need to remove all of the inactive sub forums. A forum with five members and 100 sub forums looks dead, because it's highly unlikely that the users will enjoy the topics of each of those sub forums. I vote we cut down on all of the gaming forums and generalize them to "Online Games" or maybe "Console Games" and "Computer Games." We should also make the Health and Nutrition forum a sub-forum of the Guides and Tutorials forum, because it appears that one of the main topics of the Health and Nutrition forum is tutorials on how to stay healthy. Keeping it as a sub-forum of the Tutorials forum would keep it easily browsable while putting it into the correct section. Remember - a community of five members with five highly active sub forums is better than a community of one hundred with one hundred barely posted in sub forums.
- Advertising
I think we should start advertising places, or maybe even advertising on something like Google AdWords. We should also advertise that we have Gaia and other video game hacks, and try to use SEO tactics to get us to the top of google searches of those terms. This would bring us lots of new members. We should also make it public to see forums and forum posts, because otherwise people might not take the time to sign up and post if they don't even know what content we have. As of now, the search "Gaia hacks" doesn't even have us listed on the first page. On the other hand though, a fake website with fake programs is result number TWO. (Chaos Programming)
- Creation of Software
We need to get started on more bots, hacks, and software for a greater variety of games. Currently I'm working on Half Life 2 mods, and we could even get a small forum going for game mods like that if people were interested enough. We just need to come up with new tactics and such to keep the general population of gamers interested in us. Bots, hacks, exploits, mods, and sales of online goods could bring us some good activity and such. It could be helpful to us to, though, if we teach more members to program. For me, it took me a year here to have someone finally teach me how to make an FLP, and it took me two to finally get enough information to be taught about Gaia's flash games and such. If you want information here, I had found, you had to get it yourself or not get it at all. We should change that, and make all of our information public. This would inspire a new wave of programmers and hackers, who have more ideas than our worn-out brains do.
Anyway, discuss away. I'll try to update more later.
Peace.

Bringing new users to Logical Gamers. A definitive study.

We aren't getting new users with inactive administration. That's rule 1. Unless we have an admin who participates daily/semi-daily, there is no point in doing anything.
As for other stuff, this doesn't need to be in book form. It's all pretty common sense if there is competent staff who can control these things.
The current site is designed for the activity level it used to have. It just needs to be revamped as a new site again. You don't gotta write down what needs to be done, but Arti should admin you or something so that you can do it.
- 10 Dec. 2012 06:24pm #4
Still seems like you're alluding to you being an admin. Ain't gonna happen GAME, lol.
As for the other stuff, I can somewhat agree on that. This current site isn't built around active users. It's still heavily in a rebuilding phase. For this site to truly flourish it needs to be refurbished from the ground up IMO.

Pretty sure Arti asked me in the past if I wanted to, but I declined because it wasn't profitable for me, which is why I still don't want to be now. If Flare does, he would make a great one. I doubt his interest is in profiting, while he still seems knowledgeable.

I've read a lot on forums and communities, and why they do and don't work. I would be happy to be an administrator, but I wouldn't like to dwell into the field of moderation besides banning spam bots, because I feel that I would make a fairly bad mod, haha. We do need someone to actively enforce the rules and help re-develop the site though, and I would be down to help and put in some work if it came down to it. And what do you mean, profitable? I wasn't even aware that it was possible for administration of something to be profitable, haha.
- 11 Dec. 2012 01:58am #7
Administration is super profitable. Adspace is the obvious one, but then you can do things like sell premium accounts and features. vBulletin even has the feature built in. I have no clue why Arti doesn't implement it, especially on a website that revolves around fucking online economies. Trading real money for fake money. Easiest fucking thing ever. There is no way I could be an admin of an economy website. The pressure to profitize is way to great.

You simply need software, organisation, and mass advertising. BAM.
Simplest formula ever.

Well Artificial, if you need any help organizing or anything like that, or advertising, I could help you come up with some solutions. I've grown past my immaturity for the most part, besides some joking around in threads. But if you need help combining subforums or moving topics or doing administration or anything like that, I could always help. And as for advertising solutions, anyone have any ideas?

Why the fuck didn't you admin Flare after reading this?
The most efficient advertising LG has done and is still able to do is using bots to spam Gaia PMs. Or using bots to automate as much as possible and using people to manually enter Captcha (reward them in LGG for each PM they send, eh?). That got this place active as shit back in the day. It'd work again.
You should accumulate some accounts first, though, so that new users will have shit to buy and reason to participate.
But first things first, this place needs to be cleaned up.

I like how GAME thinks the dedication and drive to be an admin is the only thing that constitutes having the position. Technically I possess those two elements but I'd probably be a poor administrator because I simply would be a bad fit for the spot.
I don't think inquiring helps much either. But meh. Flare nor you should be admin. As simple as that. You being mod is debatable, though. Just not Flare as he lacks adequate experience.

I agree with this, but not the "Why the fuck didn't you admin flare" part. I feel that he should at least evaluate me to see if I would be a good person for the position.
I hate to say it, but I agree with this. I don't think that I should just be magically made an Administrator, I think that there should be some formal verification/qualification type test that I should go through first.

>Implying anyone wants to put in the work
>Implying anyone with the proper skills to make bots wants to do it to save an already dead community.
>Implying anyone has so said previously stated proper skills
>Implying it's profitable
>Implying Administrator rights
>Implying Artificial.
Solution: Artificial saves the site like he's done before.

If you think about it. What LG had back in the day was competition. Not just with other sites, but also with each other. Programmers would constantly be pushing out programs because the one that that one guy had just released could be improved and this is how you would do it. People actually wanted to show off. Who could hack the most accounts in a day. Who could make the most money and then brag about it. It was great for the community. However, no one wants to go back to that. No one is interested anymore. Gaia has fixed up their site to be some what tight. Nice and secure. Captcha kills everything. Early warning systems that automatically ban any suspicious account within a few hours. What LG needs to be honest, is another complete re-amp with a new game to attack.
Personally I think LG shouldn't attack another game or rather the same one, yet instead, make it's own profitable game. Oh joyous shall it be. Developers developing LG's own avatar site to have its own community try to tear it apart. Awe. What a wonderful site. It is possible someone could make such a site. The goal of the game, not to get hacked or caught hacking.
Truly a site run by the gamer, for the gamer.

This idea is worse than Flare's idea. Go away. Although I do agree with you that Artificial is pretty much the only person who can save this site. Bot making personally isn't a problem for me, but right now I lack the utensils and time to really help the site expand through those means.
Oh and yeah, frankly I don't really care lol.

Lol I'm gonna make some bots for random online games in Java.
Not knowing how to make a GUI in Java FTW.
Have fun with command linessss! weeeeee!

I was actually basing it on his knowledge of the area. I see no downside to him being admin. It's not like this is a website with anything to lose.
Flare nor you should be admin.
You being mod is debatable, though.
Mod is just the admin's bitch-work without the cool benefits. It's like initiation process for a sorority, or prospecting for a club.
Just not Flare as he lacks adequate experience.

Like I said, this is currently a dead business model. If real money were involved, you would shit yourself to know how much work teens and preteens are willing to put it for making cash online. Do you know how much services like ChaCha or Linkbucks or survey websites make in a day? Do you know how much they pay to the people who do the work? Jack shit. It's the most efficient business model, and it's revolutionizing online transactions. Even Valve (Steam Workshop, Polycount contents, etc.) uses this in their games to maximize profits, and they are rolling in money because of it. People won't do it to save a community. They'll do it because it's the thing to do; it satisfies whatever drive it is that makes online economics such a sensation among teenagers.
>Implying it's profitable
- 12 Dec. 2012 01:07am #20
Online economy websites and games are the backbone to the Internet competition, hell, genre of website.
Maybe the site died down due to Gaia's security overhaul. If Gaia isn't profitable anymore, then surely go after a new game. Plenty are profitable. I never knew why LG focused so much on Gaia anyway, but especially now without the fervor, it could use an expansion.

Well I just figured out how to grab hidden input values off of a page using Java, so that should help me a ton. That means that now I can make java logins for games, which is the first step in a bot. And yes, I'm doing this all in Java because it was the first compiler that I've actually found out how to import libraries on haha.

This. I've disappeared within the past year or so, and honestly I've come to LG several times to see what it's like and the place is honestly dead. I don't feel compelled enough to log-in or bother coming on because of how dead it is. If at all you're going to bring users into LG, you're going to need something to give to them. Guides, bots, whatever. There has to be something, and right now there is nothing.
You're better having this Focus on a game or two, Gaia and something else. Remove the other game forums. As far as Other Topics, well you're probably best just removing it. There is no activity what so ever in it, so whats the point of keeping it around. In all honesty, some clean up and new content coming to the site would definitely help, of course that is if anyone is willing to give it a shot.

Anyway, bringing this thread back on topic:
Does anyone have any other ideas other than the ones that were previously posted? Or, on the other hand, does anyone have more specific versions of the ideas posted? Like ways to advertise, what forms we could cut out for now, etc?
