Well they seemed to be against them for a while, but now for them again? I don't know. I just know that I have a ton of free time right now, so I may as well try to do something at least a bit productive. If you can get that bot tutorial up soon, maybe I can try and help out with making bots and such o: I never really understood how to do that for games. I also never wanted to put in the time to learn a .NET language unfortunately, using libcurl with C++ isn't very feasible.
- 23 Aug. 2012 04:29pm #12
cURL and C++ are fine for making bots. The language as a whole, however, is not. It's all definitely possible in C++, the general learning curve and the structure of the language just isn't ideal for that sort of thing when you have languages like Python and Perl.
There's no need to learn a .NET language. I'd recommend that you learn Python more than anything else.

Do you make your bots in Python? Everyone on LG seemed to have some fetish for using .NET languages, and I didn't quite understand why. I don't like Visual Basic much, but that's just me I guess. Can python interact with the web easily? I know with C++ you need things like cURL, that make it annoying and hard to do (At least, for someone as inexperienced as me.)
- 23 Aug. 2012 04:47pm #14
I make my bots in any language fit for the task (or what I choose for that matter). These mainly include: Python, Perl, Lua, AutoIt, and Delphi. On the occasion, C#.
And yes, LG were huge .NET fanboys at one point. Artificial converted most of them to the Python side. And yes, Python can interact with the web quite easily as it has tons of libraries for that sort of thing. urllib2, cURL (Python has a curl binding), requests, and more.

#1: FLP's are not banned. They are UG material, and since this hasn't been deleted yet, you are wrong on another point.
#2: If you know the day I joined, what was the day I joined originally, and what was my userID? Because I remember them both.
#3: Omniscient is literary device used to tell a story from the either multiple first person views or a "god" view of the story.Omnipotent is the actual word that works there as omnipotent means everywhere at once, or knowing all things.
#4: People who use chat speak on a forum where speed is not essential are just lazy, furthering my original point.
#5: mr. army man as you put it should be spelled and gramatically correct as shown here: Mr.Army-Man.

Lol while I hate to intervene in this, I thought I should let you know that some of your points are incorrect.
#1: If I recall correctly, Artificial said "FLPs are not endorsed by LG." Therefore they technically are banned, whether or not the enforcement of this rule is lax or not. Even if they were allowed, you just stated that they're UG material. This is not UG. He's releasing them publicly.
#3: The term "omniscient" is not bound to that particular context, so by definition he used it correctly.
#4: Come on, let's be honest. The majority of your post consists of moot and irrelevant straw grasping. He was obviously kidding when he used chat lingo.
#5: See above. You're being a straw man. And technically it should be Mr. Army-Man with a space. Just saying.
I'm not siding with 2pac, but you all seem to be bashing him for little reason when he clearly isn't being serious.
