I got a letter from the government telling me that if I didn't do what they asked me to within 10 days, then they would report my name to the Department of Justice and request that I be prosecuted to 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The thing is, I really wish I was kidding.
If you haven't guessed already, it's about my registration papers to sign up to get drafted and go shoot little brown people with towels on their heads if we were ever to fall into war. (Selective Service) Am I the only person who finds this stupid? I'd love to defend my country, but I don't think I should get fined and butt-raped for not doing so.
I am going to keep my letter though.

its probably the selective service thing. i even had to register for it and im in the military, so yea.
almost everyone does it because you need it to get loans and shit for school, but if you have some past injury that was serious, you are excluded and do not qualify. But unfortunately, you still have to send it in. because for once, its serious.

I know it's not a big deal. I'm not worried about it, I just think the punishment is cruel and unusual for just being late signing up for a draft.
theres not really gonna be a draft, its actually for numbers saying that there are x amount of people that are eligible to be drafted if we go intrld war 3, or we get attacked by countries on our soil.

as long as I get to fight along-side my 3 uncles (one of which was 4 minutes away from being dead at the military shooting a couple weeks ago), I don't mind.
I've got a lot of military history in my family, so I guess I would do it, I just think punishing someone that harsh just because they haven't signed up to stand for that x amount of people is a little over the top.

It's called conscientious objector (someone who refuses to kill another human being). You don't have to go to a stupid war. They'll just put you behind a computer desk or something and have you work from home doing non-murderous things. Because you'd be pretty useless to have the government spend a ton of money training and suiting you up to send you into a war where you'll purposefully not kill anyone.
