This is not a hate thread so do not bring hate into it, or try to shove your views down others throats. This is simply opinion.
Pro choice is for abortion. Vise-versa for pro-life.
I'm pro-choice for the following reasons.
The fetus is not a human, just a mass of tissue
Abortion is safer than childbirth.
Every child should be a wanted child.
The number of abortions is relatively small.
Nobody has the right to impose their morals on me.
I should be able to control my own body.
Abortion must be kept legal, especially for all the rape and incest pregnancies.
Aborting unwanted children reduces the number of abused children.
We are overpopulating the planet.
Which are you?
Explain WHY
Again, I'm not imposing my views on you, just wondering how LG feels. :]

I feel stupid. For not posting this thread earlier.
on topic: I'm pro choice. If someone raped and impregnated me (im a boy so this is figurative) I would definetly want an abortion. And its the same people who are prolife that will have abortions if it comes down to it

How is the fetus not human? Its the spawn of humans. It is a human in its simplest form. It certainly is alive and growing from the start. You wouldn't say a tadpole isn't a frog just because they look different.
Abortion is not safer than child birth. You face as much chance of death from it and in having one there is no escape from the mental damage you will have. Women bond with the children long before birth due to instincts they naturally want to keep a child regardless of the conscious mind or logic.
Every child is wanted by someone and ought to be given the chance to live. No one has a right to say who or what lives and dies. That would be up to a god, which we are not.
The number of abortions is not small. We've killed a few million each year.
Morals in most world view points are universal. You most likely agree killing people is wrong and that abortion is ok as long as a fetus isn't a person but you can't really justify that it isn't.
Actually you are not allowed control of you body under the law. The Government says its illegal to kill yourself. If you attempt to and fail you go to jail. Also the fetus is not your body, its something else entirely so based on your logic you shouldn't touch it.
Abortion should not be kept legal even in special cases. The only time it should be considered is if the birth will kill the mother.
Abortion has not decreased the amount of abused children, rather its increased the number of dead ones and lowered the number of them in existence. An you can't know what those children would have had in life, love or abuse.
I hate this reason. People go to it like it turns abortion into a gracious act. If we're overpopulated and you care so much strap a bomb to your chest and walk onto a crowded buss and blow it to hell. You shouldn't kill someone else because their are to many of us, if you care about it then kill yourself and decrease the surplus. I'll give you the gun.
We have no clue what each fetus could become or do in its life. Why would you risk killing the one to cure cancer or believe you have the right to decide who/what lives and dies? No one stood over you at birth and decided if you lived or died.

I'm not sure. With the economy nowadays its hard to be able to take care of a child, so I can see why people would, but then again it is killing what's soon-to-be a human being, if not so already, so it is bad.
Idunno. Is it always necessary/unnecessary? I guess it depends on what your situation or reason is exactly.☜(* x *)☞FOOL ON COOL GENERATION

But you don't call a tadpole a frog, not until it is actually a frog. Lol
In any case abortion in the US is actually safer than child birth if you get it done within the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. After that it has the same rate as birth.
Also most women don't have any mental anguish with getting an abortion unless they were pressured into it, or their family disapproves.
In-Clinic Abortion Procedures - Planned Parenthood
Not every child is wanted, and there isn't always some who can take a child in. There is a possibility later in life of an unwanted child in a household being abused. If it was unwanted the parents my be more inclined to taking out their frustrations on the child.
As far as killing people go, I think that's a bit subjective. As selfish as it is, I don't really care either way if the fetus is a living thing or not. It's in my body, living off me like a parasite, personally I find that fact digusting.
Oh and you don't go to jail for attempted suicide. You go to a hospital, trust me, I had to stay there all night with my roommate until they got him into an institution so he could receive psychological evaluation. As long as you weren't threatening to physically harm anyone while you were attempting you won't got to jail. Now if you're waving a gun around and threatening to shoot someone, they'd consider that reckless endangerment. Lol
Personally I think it's better to have never been born, than to have to go through life in an abusive situation. That is one of my own personal reason I'd never have a kid. Plus I know I wouldn't be able to take care of it adequately.
There is also no proof the fetus will grow up do any of these things.
Another reason I have is, I have extremely bad genetics that I would never want a child to have the misfortune of living with.
I hate my health problems enough, but I was lucky that a few of them skipped my generation. Though if I get birth there is a VERY high possibility that my child will have all my current health problems along with the ones that didn't have. If I ever wanted a child I'd adopt, but I doubt I'd ever want one.
It's understandable if you or someone else is pro life, but I don't think anyone should impose upon another person's choice when it comes to this.Last edited by CL0V3R; 10 Feb. 2010 at 06:29pm.

touchy subject that i hate talking about to be honest. storms makes a few good points but im honestly with coffincase. its murder. read a text book, it clearly states that its human at conception. i can understand the rape/incest/etc thing too, however, there are tons of families that can't have children whuld love to take care of a child of there own (aka adoption) and treat your child wonderfully.

You do, its not a different species. Merely a baby frog, we label things simple cause that's our nature.
Its safe from a physical stand point and its proven that at conception a woman's body starts pumping a chemical cocktail to her brain that bonds her to the baby, there are studies that show all women will face some degree of mental duress from an abortion. Also you can't cite a plan parenthood article to back your facts, it has a bias. It'd be like me citing the Catholic Church on this.
Every child is wanted, maybe not by those foolish enough to bring them to this world but there are hundreds of families that would love to adopt children. Dedicated men and women who take in children as often as they can and raise them.
I'll address your fetus view later.
You can be prosecuted for trying to kill yourself. You more likely get sent to a mental institute but there are cases where people are prosecuted afterward.
The healthy human mind does not see death as more favorable than life. Death is to be a great adventure I'm sure but first we must finish the greatest adventure: life. Regardless of your view of life its not really fair to imposes that view on any one or thing else is it?
There is no proof the fetus would grow to do any thing or nothing. Its not our place to say since we don't know.
There we go you don't want a child because of your genes, well then don't go get pregnant . Don't go screw around and you'll be fine, see how that works? If you're not having sex you don't have a kid do you. You want control of your body? Control yourself and don't go at it like a rabbit.

As far as planned parenthood goes I would actually say it's unbaised, it also tell you the other options like putting your child up for adoption. Planned parenthood is aimed at giving you the facts for what ever decisions you make. I only quoted the abortion facts. :'D
Also as far as the abortion and "bonding" with the fetus, that normally only happens if the girl actually wants the baby. If she doesn't that bond doesn't normally happen. Unfortunately I know a lot of slutty girls that had abortions, and only one of my friends really regretted it.
My mother (who should have kept it in her pants) had three abortions before she had, me, turned christan for a while and decided to keep me because she'd be guilty for sinning or some shit. Later when she grew out of that phase she'd yell at me and say she wasn't ready for a child, why did god force her to have this child, that regretted not having an abortion, it was my fault I was born, ect. And you know what? I grew up raising my mother her whole life because she didn't know how to grow the fuck up. Personally I just don't think some people are meant to have children. Family members offered to take me in but she didn't want to give me up because she had no sense of control in her life, and I was the only stable thing she had. She dragged me into many abusive situations, blamed me for most of her problems, married a pedophilia with a drug addict, and I ended up getting thrown out of the house when I was 17 because she sided with him instead.
The thing is you, never know what kinds of things these kids will go through, the best option I agree is just give the damn kid up for adoption. But alot of parents won't whether it be pride, or something else that keeps them from doing it. Eventually when they get stressed out from the baby, it isn't so cute anymore, it isn't fun, so they neglect or abuse it. I'm just saying in situations where women aren't ready to have children, it isn't fair to the child to subject that to that life style. That's just my personal opinion, just like you have your own.
I have to say out of all the people I've know that have attempted suicide, including myself, no one has ever been arrested. Most of the time unless you seem like you're going to try and harm yourself again or another person they won't even detain you for being institutionalized. The only reason my friend was, was because it was his 2nd or 3rd time doing that in two months. It really only happens when the police have to get involved.
I suppose you are right about the view on death. My view may be slightly warped, as child I wished my mother would have had an abortion. I didn't ask to come into the world, and I didn't want to be the one blamed for her horrible fucked up life. I guess from my point of view hanging out with all the other kids with fucked up lives, and fucked up problems, made me feel that way as well. I think I felt the worst after my best friend's suicide though. His mom ended up having him when she was 14 and was thrown out of her family because of it. So for the rest of forever she seemed to resent him, treat him like shit, his father would beat the crap out of him, and his mother was such a high maintenance whore that she'd force him to use his pay checks to buy her things. Like a new cell phone for instance. Even though they spoiled the shit out of his brothers and sisters. His parents would say he was ugly, even though in my opinion and the opinion of a few other, he was really good looking kid. I think he ended up getting some sort of complex from his parents that came out in social life, he didn't know how to trust people, and his life socially was fucked up too.
I guess I really don't want to see another person suffer like that.
Now back to the subject of genes, that's why I'm choosing not to have a kid in the first place. Also practicing safe sex, and my boyfriend wants to get a vasectomy, and personally I wouldn't mind getting fixed myself. I'm just saying if for some random, god awful situation happened, and I was forced to become pregnant. I'd probably get an abortion, I know I can't handle a kid, and would probably repeat some of the things my mother did to me. I can barely handle taking care of a dog. So I'd rather not have any children at all, ever, and if I had to get an abortion to keep that way, I would.
All hail kitty pig.

Its worst than murder...Your killing what could be the next Pres. or Leading Brain Surgeon...We don't know what the kids gonna do when he/she grows older...That baby your killing could be the man/women that finds the cure for a "as of this moment Incurable Disease" Your taking away life and its wrong...Also if your raped you can just give the child up for adoption...Is that so hard?

Meh, I'm torn. I think women should have a choice to get the abortion, but I also believe it's murder. But I also believe it's a humane, quick death.

Pro-choice. Life is defined by sentience. Most people believe that, whether they know it or not. Killing a tree is okay. Killing a human is not. Killing an ant is okay. Killing a dog is not. I thought a long time on why it's okay to kill some living things (human or not) and why it's not okay for others. What it ended up boiling down to was sentience. If an animal is aware of its own life, it's socially [and morally] unacceptable to kill it.
Potential life is irrelevant. Sperm is potential life, but masturbation isn't murder (unless you're Catholic). Fetuses are factually not sentient until the second trimester, after which their sentience is debatable (highly unlikely, but debatable).
So, until we know exactly when sentience begins, I'm completely for abortion until the second trimester. I can't say I don't support it after that, but I'd be a hypocrite to stand firm that abortion should be allowed after the second trimester, given that I don't know if the fetus is sentient or not.
Given what is known, first trimester is perfectly fine.
