Since this topic is hot right now, in America....
Do you think openly gay men and women should be allowed to join the military?
I think if you're willing to fight for America, no matter what your sexual orientation is, that you damn well can join the military. Why should you have to hide who you truly are to join the military?

Sex doesnt even affect it.
But you need to act manly when in he battlefield.
Or else the enemies will laugh at you.
I also expect the men to laugh at the gay people.
Since people are like that.
Humans yawn when they think of it.

@Snow and man can be manly once he;s been through basic training.
No I don't feel homosexuals should be openly allowed. Its adds a complication that is rather serious.
We keep woman and men separate in the service and discourage relationships and sex between them as it always create problems. Emotions get in the way of a soldier preforming their duty. You have a bad break up, someone gets jealous, ect. You can't have drama between the soldiers because one needs to be able to trust the other with their life and to be focused 100% at all times. Scorned loves, booty calls, or rivals tend create conflict of interest and mixed with emotions can result in someone not having someone's back. When you introduce the homosexual you can't keep them away from those they might become romantically involved with. You less able to control the situation of them. "Don't ask don't tell" works because it'll let them in without official acknowledgment. We ignore the problem and have a stigma attached to being homosexual in the military which discourages and more effectively regulates those homosexuals in the service. Less have relationship or allow them selves to be outed because they are afraid of being thrown out. At least in theory that's how it works. Also I don't see the homosexual community as putting out that many people who want to join the armed forces and I don't believe they represent that large of a demographic.

Cofincase brought up many good points. in this situation I don't think they are being repressed in anyway it's just makes more sense.
that saying, I support gay rights and everything.

sorry i loved this comment XD made me laugh
now onto subject
basically what coffin said
if the gays were in their they might make alot of the guys or girls not focussed and probably alot of them don't like gays which can resolve in not having their back and saving them if they were shot or something
i think they shouldn't be in but its their choice and free will so they should be able to join maybe if we created a specific gay army then that would settle things but who knows only time will tell

being in the military myself, i know of only one person that is, atleast admits to being, a homosexual. i'm sure there are people who after a while in some foreign country get kinda "lonely" so they do what they gotta do. but idk if that makes them homo. cause most of those people all have wives/gf's etc... but honestly if your fight and possibly dying for a cause, then i don't see a big deal. but coffincase does bring up a good point

Gays shouldn't be able to join the military, your living with all men for 1+ year your don't want no gay guy trying to hit on you. And the gays may get picked on the whole time.

I love how people think gays are out to rape straight guys... it's hilarious.
Did you know many gays are actually ONLY attracted to other gays? It's called a gaydar.

Gays are just people who like other people's dicks... OOHH NOOO. Do you know how many people have went into the army straight, and came out gay? Are you saying they all should be damned to hell because they don't see a damn pussy for six to eighteen months? Are you serious? Why is this even a topic? That's like saying are Mexicans(born in U.S.) are allowed to fight for U.S. Of course they are. Grow up. The news/media just makes it huge because they have something up theirs and want to make a huge deal out of nothing just so they get their damn publicity.

He's asking on opinions on what they think on the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy and what Obama plans on doing with it. That's why it's a topic, because it's discussing a point in media that is something that is commonly talked about. Nothing an immature person would talk about.
My opinion on it is the same as H2O's. If a gay man wants to fight for his country then he's going into the military with the mindset of helping his country in battle, or in any possible way. Not to get laid with someone. The fact that they're having gay guys leave the career that they wished to pursue just because of their sexual orientation is just straight up ridiculous. If they keep doing that, then they should re-read the Declaration of Independence and look at laws enforced on other jobs.

I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed. That sounds ridiculous, no matter how homophobic you are. I'm not sure what the debate even is. "He likes men, therefore he doesn't know how to use a gun"? It's ludicrous. Men, women, homosexuals, etc. should all be allowed to join if they want to join.

Sex doesent matter when you are joining the military
As long as you dont act gay
On the other hand the military will make manly enough to fight for your country
Simple is BEAUTIFUL!

There was a guy in the Navy who planned on being in it for his whole career and he was a really good sailor but they put him on leave because he was acting gay. He said he never told anyone that he was gay or ever hit on a guy in his 5-year career with the Navy. It's not if you say your gay anymore, there dropping people that they have enough proof to say your gay: check out guys, the voice, etc.

Rejecting people based off sexual orientation goes against....well a lot of things. So they like the same sex, so what? They're still serving the country. They're protecting you. I don't think it matters.

I think its no problem if they join it because it doesn't matter about who they like or what they like it just matters if they can fight.

Shit...They're fighting for our country so i don't see what the big deal is...and Coffincase your talking about emotions in the army?Do you really think Bill's gonna care that Bobs gay when Bob is the one saving him on the battlefield...No...i think not
- 08 Feb. 2010 11:22pm #24
I could understand the don't ask, don't tell. They aren't there to be openly gay any damn way. CoffinCase made some great points. It would just cause too much drama. Besides the US is a country that tries to takes away the rights of gays and looks down upon them. You think they would pay people in their military if they are openly gay? Hell no. If they wont give you marriage, they certainly wont allow you to be openly gay with a group of other men who may be a tad bit curious.
