No I don't feel homosexuals should be openly allowed. Its adds a complication that is rather serious.
We keep woman and men separate in the service and discourage relationships and sex between them as it always create problems. Emotions get in the way of a soldier preforming their duty. You have a bad break up, someone gets jealous, ect. You can't have drama between the soldiers because one needs to be able to trust the other with their life and to be focused 100% at all times. Scorned loves, booty calls, or rivals tend create conflict of interest and mixed with emotions can result in someone not having someone's back. When you introduce the homosexual you can't keep them away from those they might become romantically involved with. You less able to control the situation of them. "Don't ask don't tell" works because it'll let them in without official acknowledgment. We ignore the problem and have a stigma attached to being homosexual in the military which discourages and more effectively regulates those homosexuals in the service. Less have relationship or allow them selves to be outed because they are afraid of being thrown out. At least in theory that's how it works. Also I don't see the homosexual community as putting out that many people who want to join the armed forces and I don't believe they represent that large of a demographic.
