A big debate since the "Hot Coffee" incident was if the video gaming world is appropriate for the youth and masses of America. Some people blame video games for the violence that is in the world today for the violence portrayed in video games and other media outlets.

Put simply, if people are stupid enough to be influenced to be violent through the inspiration of video games such as grand theft auto, then they must have some sort of a mental problem, which would be the REAL cause of their actions, not the videogames.

This is the same argument as that against metal music and hard core rap and D&D. That the lyrics, images, and ideas influence those exposed to them. According to all scientific evidence and the court system of the US the healthy human mind is not effected to the extent to cause the person to repeat the lyrics, images, ideas, or force the persons to act on similar inspired actions. Now if someone who can't mentally handle listening to Ozzy or play D&D, or GTA 4 then they shouldn't be allowed to, but if they are and then go do something in response to the influence you can't blame the music/game you have to blame the defect or the guardian or system that should have prevented the exposure. The governments and most people of the world assume all people are sane, healthy, responsible adults or under the care of.

I don't think video games make kids violent. If the parents make a big deal out of it, then why the hell buy the game for your child. I agree with Raivu, the people who are stupid enought to copy what they see in video games are stupid. Does that mean if there was a suicidal game those kids would do it? Well probably those dumb ass kids would.

The one famous lawyer who was completely adamant about this theory was already disbarred, meaning he and this theory are sacks of shit.
EDIT: Everyone should watch the "Penn & Teller: Bullshit" episode on video game violence.Last edited by [DATA EXPUNGED]; 23 Aug. 2010 at 04:30pm.

I'll be honest with this.
The only thing that's wrong here is with people's mindsets, in both cases. The gamer, for being a dumbfuck stupid enough to get influenced by pixels on a screen, and the parents/guardians, for being overly concerned about so-called realistic violence on a PC. In most of these cases, the parent or guardian thinks it's OK to expose their children to other media, even hardcore violence and X-rated porn for that matter, but they blow up the issue when it comes to gaming.
People need easy scapegoats. The gaming industry has nothing new on this. Just like the pogo stick craze (a mild enough example) when Commander Keen was still popular. Some idiot pogoed through a window and ended up splat on the ground because he thought he'd land safely like Keen always does. Then we have the dumbasses who think that religion forbids this and that, so it's OK for them to rail at others who do stuff they think is bad. D&D is our best example here, because nearly every single friggin' religious organization wanting to score brownie points demonized it because it had a lot of pornographic and satanic references, especially detailed modules and material on demons. Gee, like it's a big deal for a demon to flash its tits. It's a demon, for crying out loud.
In the end, impression makes or breaks it all. Games can do a lot of good too. They help keep you smart, that means less chance of contracting something like Alzheimers' or Parkinson's disease later in life. It improves hand-eye coordination, which is very useful for people like me, who need to be careful in the utmost when working. And as a last point, Columbine was the only real major incident of video-game violence on a large scale.Last edited by noob; 26 Aug. 2010 at 11:44am.

For all the stuff that happens around here, LG itself is always remarkably unchanged. Thanks to the folks who still remembered I was once here and welcomed me back despite me being retarded.

Video games? I wouldn't think so.
However if children are brought up around violence its more then likely the child will be violent. We are taught from our parents it'd only be natural to follow in their foot steps.Last edited by Defy; 16 Sep. 2010 at 02:46am.

But then that leaves no validity for it. If someone says the video game made me do it, then they can get away with anything. It all comes down to common sense about certain stuff. You're not going to run down Main Street in NYC with an AK-47 shooting people because you saw it in GTA. Its common sense. People know what is right, and what is wrong. Before video games it was TV that was the devil, and after video games, whatever comes next, will be the new hot thing to blame for being a retard.
Its a never ending cycle because people don't want to reach down and grab a pair, and man up to them being the person to blame for their own actions.Voted Hottest Male Member
