I'm a sports fan. So are a few others here (to name a couple, Ethan, ya bish, etc).

I've seen a couple topics. Obviously not a bevy of them or anything, but it would be interesting to have. Maybe it can stimulate some form of discussion.

Or you could make sports topics in the JY or Weighted discussion and stimulate activity there when something interesting actually happens in sports.

So the site can be even more JY-only oriented? No thanks. A sports section needs to be more dichotomous than that (like dedicated subforums, et al).

Right now this site is pretty one dimensional and could use a bit more fine tuning imo.

Posting in the JY gives an idea of how much people want to talk about your subject before dedicating an entire forum to it. If you're the only person who wants to talk about sports, there is no need for a subforum. If the JY topics pick up Steam, they will be moved to the created Sports forum, which isn't JY-orientation. If they don't pick up Steam, then they will remain JY-oriented, which is where a general topic like that would belong if there isn't enough interest in it to warrant its own forum.
