Reputation is a horrid idea, but a thanks system can be implemented. It holds no real bearing, just that it shows someone liked your post and that you don't have to earn anything for it, just to show that people liked your post, and since it holds no prestige it can be just for fun. There is also the fact that people can take away the thanks on their own.
Its a little like rep, just without the creation of a big head, and just knowing that people like your posts, and it doesnt make you any better then anyone.
Feel free to say that i am retarded.
+0, but thank you (eh? )

I think this is a pretty good idea because when you get rep is kinda low and not even amazing but when you get thanks you know from it was from and you know how many people you helped

the iTrader is simply used for trading and being able to show that are trusworthy for traing with or are good to trade with, not much else. Thank yous are more like, hey you actually helped me, heres a thank you. Almost like rep , but since it can be taken away by the thanker, it works easier.

I think it would end up too much like rep anyway.

yes in retrospect it would be slightly more like rep then anything, but some form of thanking is always ok. true it needs to be controlled if rep is usedfor any qualifications, which is why it should never be a a requirement for a rank. that is what always ends up causing problems.
Speed isnt important when it comes down to it all. if its about speed, then a 5 second click is faster then a 20 second "job" of a message.Last edited by Souleater; 19 Dec. 2009 at 01:01am.

There was no more personal effect in a rep button. and if you really feel the need, you can do both, at most you spend a few seconds of the hours you spend online giving a few words of thanks and a little bit more. Its all relatively impersonal, the only thing personal about saying thanks randomly because of a random post is the random quality of actually saying thank you to someone.
Not everything needs you to say thank you in words, hence the button. Not everything has to have presonal heartfelt meaning behind it (exaggeration).Voted Hottest Male Member

I think the thanks system can also be a big help for posting guides in the UG on scamming our way into/gaining cash for websites and such.
The 'thanks' can be a way to determine if it worked or not.
This system is used on warez sites a lot to determine if the warez work or not.

Rep is pointless does nothing itrader is what you need.
- 19 Dec. 2009 03:07am #13
He never said anything about rep coming back. And itrader is only useful for seeing if they well....trade good.

Would be great for Guide those that wish to thank guide writers. I know many atime I wish to thank them and that button comes in handy Shows them you actually care about the time they spend putting in the information and what not.
Edit : Basically what H2O said. Was to lazy to read every post lol so i missed his post.

Good Idea, I Think Thanks Button Is Even better Than Rep Button Since You Can Know Who Did Really Appreciate/UnAppreciate Your Post And Stuff.

Oh, and on a side note.
To everyone saying Rep does nothing, and this will do nothing, all we need is iTrader.
Let me hit you in the face with this wet mop of reality.
sure, rep was just a call for attention, i agree there.
But iTrader can corrupt people.
It's happened a lot already here. People gain high iTraders from doing good little trades, then the second they come in contact with someone elses VERY expensive account, they take it. iTrader is just as faulty as anything else.
This, thanks button, is sooo far away from all of that crap.

But by that logic, wouldn't it be better to just say that it doesn't work? People would think that the guide wasn't given any mind by anyone, hence the no thanks and they'll still attempt to do it. Report the guide as not working, it'll be binned.

Pointless idea...the rep button was pointless to...and u could easily thank someone by PMing them

I personally would love seeing the little thanks text under my posts. It would cut down on spam, as less people would feel the need to say "Thanks" in posts in their own various ways, and it would also, as H2O said, give people an idea of the trustworthiness of a post.

its aso like the hundreds of other sites, but i know there are other ways to thank for a good post/helpful post/etc. The only other fall back i can think of is to link your great posts in your siggy, or a rep system, which is a terrible idea.
i don't know if there are others out there, but something to show thanks for helping, and not just a profile message or PM.Voted Hottest Male Member
