okay so i'm sure we've all noticed that every single new member lately have been grave digging like frakkin crazy. i think it would be nice if when a new member registers, a pop up message or link to thread describing what that is and that its against the rules would be nice, because they obviously don't read the rules by themselves.

new member message
- 25 Feb. 2010 04:54am #2
It would be a good idea, but I doubt they would read the post they were directed to.
- 25 Feb. 2010 06:42am #3
Oh, a lovely idea. (In my opinion.)
But probably around a half wouldn't actually care...
The other half'll probably just skim through it.
So if this were to go active then i suggest the page be no more than 2 paragraphs.

Maybe have a timer that forces them to stay on the page for a certain amount of time and have a captcha-like thing at the end asking stuff like whats the third words in the second paragraph or something.
- 25 Feb. 2010 04:52pm #5
Agreed.
But i think it should have a PM sent to the new members

Well since I have a list of the old LG rules in my sig, which seem to also be the rules here, then I think it is a good idea. I made it easily available to anyone. And half of them wont read the rules anyway, which means it wont make any difference.
it would be a nice thought, but it wont help to stop spamming assbags.Voted Hottest Male Member

Grave digging should be allowed, as long as it's not spam. Otherwise, there's no point in keeping old topics, or at least keeping them unlocked. Gravedigging is fine if you're contributing to discussion (because what's the difference between using an old topic about cats and creating a new topic about cats?). Otherwise, it's spam. And spam is what should be fought, not grave digging.

How about a hack that:
1. Doesn't allow week old threads to be posted in (by members with 50 or less posts)
2. Automatically redirects to the rules page after registration (as opposed to announcements)
3. Gives random tips on the top of the page that nobody will read anyways
- 25 Feb. 2010 10:48pm #10
And why do you think this is? Because they need 50 posts to get UG Bronze.
Maybe threads of a certain age should be locked automatically.

Oh, you need 50 to get into UG? Low standards.
That wouldn't be good for guides.

Locking a thread after a certain age is pointless, look at Gamechief's post.

But that's just you. The mass percentage of people would not.

Make it so the first thread they open, that "Admin wants you to read this thread" opens. Then it tells them a long list of rules.
Then make one of the rules, answer no to the ToS question.
Most people will not read and press yes and they'll have to continue doing it until they get it right.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Or, get this. They read the TOS, agree to it, and go about their business. They break a rule, and they get punished. How about that?

or just make it to when the "read this first" message comes up, they can't leave that page for 5 minutes. then they may be more prone to reading the rules since they can't leave the page for 5 minutes. and they can't read any other posts anywhere until they've been on that page for 5 minutes.

My thread was dug up, but the one response wasn't spam. I'm with GAMEchief on this one. If it's not spam, I don't see anything wrong with it.
We don't need trry about the new threads being buried either, because if people are determined to dig deep enough to find old threads, chances are good they'll find the new ones too.☜(* x *)☞FOOL ON COOL GENERATION
