Figured we need an X&Y updates thread.
Please pose offical sources here. Try not to speculate and avoid fake info.
Current news says there will be character customization in the next gen along with ride-able pokemon.
It's unclear if there are multiple pokemon to ride of if there is a single pokemon, which is designated "the riding pokemon" in the article.
There also seems to be indication that more classic pokemon will receive "updates".
The region is based of France.

Aside from the new mechanics and stuff, the Pokemon look like they're at an all time worst to me.
They look like pure cartoons.

Well you know, since they are cartoons it's sort of appropriate they look that way.
Also while I also prefer the gen one aesthetic as opposed to the direction they have gone, they went this direction a long time ago and made it their own. Which considering the plethora of monster taming games and cliches associated with them, I am impressed with pokemon and have to give them the fact that you can see a pokemon and know it's a pokemon. Gamefreak more or less reinvents their universe every game. Most monster titles add a few new monsters or a mechanic and just go on with their games forever. Pokemon basically invents a new world every game, they all exist in the same continuum ad time line and they do little cross pollination to emphasize that but otherwise: new monsters, new land, new characters, new story(though very similar), & new mechanics. The only other games series that does that that I can think of right off the bat is Final Fantasy.
I was in the same boat as you until I sat down and gave Black 2 and the "new"pokemon a real shot. Once I did I found that what I had loved about the original pokemon had been refined and improved upon. Are there some stupid crap pokemon? Yeah, but there were some in every gen. Plus the cartoon aesthetic is really not something they do with every pokemon. There are plenty that carry on with that gen one aesthetic.

Mewtwo can evolve now? I'm losing faith in Pokemon with each generation. What's next? Mew as a starter? Mew Evolving into a Rayquaza? Ash waking up from his coma and realizing it was all a dream?

Mega forms is a ridiculous idea. Why take pokemon that are already powerful, and give them another form to make them more powerful? Does Mewtwo, arguably the most powerful Pokemon ever conceived (next to Arceaus), really need another form? Why not instead of giving him a new form, give him the armor that he had from the TV show that let him focus and make his powers amplified?
The point I'm trying to make is that, though it will be difficult to find these items, people will still find them, and it won't really matter, and if you have the action replay code, you can get it anyways. If the items are given away at events and stuff like that, so it's very limited, my point is moot, but the fact still exists that some things shouldn't be changed. Mewtwo was a beast, an absolute monster in the terms of raw power and base stats. Giving him another form, or even an evolution to make him more powerful goes against what the idea behind him was. He was an experiment gone wrong that was a clone of the next most powerful pokemon, Mew. Hence my statement of Mew being a starter.
And last time I checked, having forms that you can go in and out of at will was some shit Digimon came up with a long time ago.
I don't care if it's a new location. I'd like to see something new for once. New music. Cool. Character customization. Really cool. Adding a fairy type and giving pokemon that are already powerful an insane boost in power? Pointless. At least go back to where it all began and actually have some references to what happened in past games. Just once, I'd love to see Gary make a return with some insanely powerful pokemon, or Red to make a challenge at the Elite 4 once you beat the champion. Or even including you into the game. Once you beat the champion, you can fight the elite 4 anytime and have to take on random challengers that the game randomly creates. The Elite 4 will send you a call on pokegear saying you have a challenger or some shit. Something to make the game more inclusive and not have the same champion after you beat him 10 times already.
Adding new Pokemon? great. Adding Powerful pokemon? Great. Having like 30+ legendary pokemon that are catchable in the game? Retarded. Legendary means Legendary. Something of legend is something that is limited. Why make so many legendary pokemon? Why? Does every game need a new inclusion to the group? Why not just wipe the slate clean and have none of the old pokemon in the next game? Have them able to be traded in from compatable games, sure, but other wise never seen in the game outside of references or paintings or some shit.
And what about all of these criminal organizations in this game? What is this, Reservoir Dogs? How about a game where all of them just get sick of each other and start to rage war on one another, and stuff starts to get rough for the pokemon world and you have to team up with Red, Silver, etc to take them all on since they've beat them before.
I'd pay to play a pokemon game with all of that stuff in it. I'd gladly fork over the $50 to play some shit on that level.Voted Hottest Male Member

so you want it to "go back where it all began" but you dont want the theme of criminals to keep going, legendaries native to each new area, or new types to be added?
dark and steel weren't in the very first games
i agree with some stuff you said though

Well lets think of all of the original types:
Fire
Water
Grass
Flying
Normal
Ice
Psychic
Ground
Rock
Fighting
Dragon
Bug
Lets look at the new additions to generation 2:
Dark
Steel
Ice
The addition of fairy to counter act dragons, that could have been included in generation 2 or 3 already to establish the types and keep it simple, I believe they added a few other types along the road.
And I'm not saying new legendary are bad. But I don't see the point of adding multiple new ones for every game. Lets look at what we have now:
Legendary Birds:
Zapdos
Articuno
Moltres
Legendary Dogs:
Entai
Suicune
Raiku
The Weather Trio:
Kyogre
Groudon
Rayquaza
The Lake Trio:
Azelf
Mesprite
Uxie
The Lunar Duo:
Darkrai
Cresellia
The Kami Trio:
Tornadus
Thundrus
Landus
The Energy Trio:
Zekrom
Reshiram
Kyurem
L&L
Latios and Latias
The Muskateers Trio:
Cobalion
Terrakion
Virizion
The Regi Trio:
Regirock
Regiice
Registeel
The Creation Trio:
Palkia
Dialga
Giratina
Super Legendaries:
Mew
Mewtwo
Celibi
Ho-oh
Lugia
Jirachi
Deoxys
Regigigas
Shaymin
Genesect
Healtran
Keldio
Victini
Meloetta
Manaphy
Phione
Arceas
48 pokemon classified as legendary. Is it really necessary? I have nothing against new legendary pokemon, but this is a bit excessive.Voted Hottest Male Member

I think Ice might have been in Gen 1. I understand them playing with typing. In reality typing is done less for someone like you or me and more for people that play in a competitive way so we really can't comment on it much. Obviously in gen 1, psychic was OP and it was obvious to everyone.
As for legendaries I see you side of the argument but the other side is that almost every game/gen represents a unique and geographically different region of a world. While early on they kept Johto close to Kanto, we've now moved to the other side of the world. It makes sense that they have their own legendary pokemon, just as different continents have different animals and cultures have different legends. Unova was sort of America and the new game is sort of France/Europe. Kanto and Johto were Japan. They are populating a whole world.

Imo mega forms seem alright, it's "different". Change is nice but true question is "hows the gameplay". The videos Ive seen were just some Japanese people playing and screaming at the screen.

I want X & Y to be different than the main goal being become the world Champion. I want to feel compelled to play, rather than forced.
It has potential.

I watched smo play in on twitch. It looks really really good, and im temped to buy it. I like the whole, you can dress up your character thing.
Its also cool that they mixed old pokemons with new ones. Im not sure if all are in the game, but I saw Pikachu, weedle, caterpie and torchik. So I guess there are even more.

I kind of want to get Pokemon Y because the legendary one looks badass, but first I have to obtain a 3DS.

I'm at 31 hours and just got my 4th gym badge. Though that's probably completely because I spent too much time breeding pokemon, trading, and playing the mini games. Lol
