I'm planning a trip to New York so I was wondering when was the best time of the year to be there. Also, any suggestion on stuff to do there is appreciated.

Summer. Shopping.
- 18 Jun. 2013 08:00am #3
I've heard that it's really humid during summer, so that would probably be a pain in the ass.
If you like high end clothing brands, New York has very big outlets where you can get clothing very cheap, my friend bought me stuff from GUESS 50%-70% off.
Also, FOOOOOOOOD.
Last night I had a vision of a disco in the sky, I saw angels and saints dancing together.
I remembered the thump of the bass and the pump of the kick, because my heart was almost out my body and I felt free, I felt joy,
I felt things I never thought I'd feel before. It was deep it was soulful it was techno it was disco,
a kaleidoscope of sounds it was truly underground it was an essential mix in the cloud where we could dance and sing out loud
it was New York Ibiza and Miami all wrapped up into one. There were speakers the size of skyscrapers and the stars they flickered like strobes,
and everybody loved everybody else, a tribal beast of rhythm a ceremony of sound, the gathering of the spirits that would lift us off the ground,
my vision was so clear, but it was still hazy in my mind, I must have went to house heaven, because nothing's that divine...

Whenever it's not tourist season. Also don't look like a tourist. Get you some New York pizza. Stalk a celebrity. Do whatever the fuck there is to do in New York, you should know that before you decide to go there.

Not interested in shopping.
Average humidity in New York is 72% and in Buenos Aires 71.4%, I'm used to humidity. Also, not interested in shopping.
Yeah, no.
Don't you have to be in at least your 40's to look like a tourist?
Also, I have some plans, but more suggestions never hurt...

I've generally gone in the Fall. You can at last attempt to self-regulate your temperature in the cold.
The MMOMA is interesting see, you can walk around Central Park for hours cause it's beautiful, the Museum of Natural History has more in it that you could imagine ad I could kill days there, the Library is also rather impressive, just waking round the city s usually entertaining and you can find cool place, Grand Central Station is worth seeing, Time Square is very exciting the first few times you see it, there are some touristy tours you can take on buses and they are an excellent way to cover distances and see a lot, and even if you don't ride one you should check out the subway. You need a metropass to ride the subway or bus and you have to buy them from like gas stations and stuff. I would not buy a pretzel unless you like eating rocks. If a monk tries to give you anything don't take it unless you ant to give him money. There are very few public restrooms. You can generally get a good deal on a Broadway from a hotel or a scalper.
As far as pizza and Chinese food you actually need to do some research cause just going to random places will not actually get you "NY style" food. It's well know that NY has great x so there are now a billion little crap places that figure you won't know the difference. I've found that it's easier to find better food in Jersey.

Always bring a box when you go on vacation, you never know when you will need it.

I'd do it while it's Winter. I think the snow would be cool, and I love the neon color you get when you're on acid. What do you plan on tripping with (hope no one said asked this above as I didn't read any post under yours.
Off topic: Long time no see babe.

I reccommend going in the fall, not too hot, not too cold. Also when traveling one of the biggest things to remember is when packing, pack half the clothes and twice the cash (still bring your bank/credit cards but have enough cash on hand for unexpected expenses like cab fare or emergencies). You can always do laundry when you're there, but if you're short on cash it can be a real pain. I learned that the hard way when I went to Nevada a couple years ago.

You know I don't do that shit.
And quite a long time indeed.
I was planning on going near the end of fall or begining of spring. Also, I'll take that into account, I was planning on going light on cash and taking whatever I needed from ATMs.

I've been to York before.
Don't look like a tourist.
Don't bring hefty sums of money around with you, be careful with your card and wallet.
I'm that paranoid person who keeps pockets of money around in different places, remembering where they all are in my head.
Be careful about bumping into people, and staring. Don't stare.
There are certain times of night when it's not good to stay out on certain streets.
I don't really remember what they were, but it's advisable not to stay out too very late.
Though it is really bright at night in the city, I watched a play and when I left the theatre I couldn't tell what time it was because the city lights made it seem kinda bright out, but if you looked further off the citys horizon the sky was completely black.
Do not take pedi-cabs or taxis. Take your time to learn about their subways, use the metro system.
The Empire State Building was okay. If you really like views and high places or if you're some sort of photographer.
It takes a heck of a long time to get up there, you will have to switch elevators to be able to go up to the top, and your ears will pop to adjust altitudes. But the view was pretty cool.
Cheesecake is good.
I don't know what i'd do if I were you, since you're not interested in shopping.
That's what it's known for, shopping. I mean, guh, go to diamond street and you'll know you're there because at the entrance there are diamond shaped street lamp things.
I liked watching plays and music things. Theatrics.
Saw Mary Poppins while I was over there, for old times sake.
She flew. Out from the stage and above the balcony seats, don't know exactly where to..
But it was interesting. Supercalifragilistic.
Hot dog stands, you see them around, everyone knows about them. Don't eat those hotdogs. Don't. Not good. Bad idea. Go find somewhere legit to eat.
Time's Square is kinda expensive but eh. Two blocks west there's some lines of places that were good eating.
I kinda wish I went to Hell's Kitchen. If you try eating there tell me how it turns out.
