Running your own server is more than server hardware. You need a dedicated IP from your ISP, and a router that can forward requests appropriately. Not all ISPs or routers offer that, unfortunately.

You could always just hook up any old computer, you know. Servers don't have to be specially designed, especially if you're only using it personal use or a few others' accounts. Just install Apache on an old Windows machine. If you want to be super efficient, override Windows some with Linux installation first. But I am personally fond of Apache on Windows, at least for a small operation. For a large server, Windows probably isn't the most secure or memory-efficient thing to be using. For small, I find it way easier and faster to set up. But then again, I've always done it so many times to know how to do it, whereas I recall it being a pain in the ass the first few times.
Either way, who doesn't have an old junk computer laying around? You don't need to buy a a new one, especially when you don't really know what you're doing. Test it out with the other computer to make sure that A) your ISP supports it, B) your router supports it, C) you know how, and D) it ends up being everything you want it to be.

I've considered turning this computer into a server whenever I get my new laptop next year. It's too powerful to just go to waste, and do you know how awesome it would be if I could just download to my hard drive and BAM it's automatically on my website? Fuck FTP.

Hell, I would love to do that with with an old computer, that would even work for me. My parents seem to think that if you leave a computer on overnight, it will get hacked and infected with viruses. Because, you know, hackers only come out at night obviously.

I use one of this computer's hard drives as data storage for every media device in the house.

I've always been tempted to do that, just get a NAS box, but I never had a real use for it. I wouldn't want my parents fucking with my stuff, and no one else in the entire house uses as much shit as I do. I have like 700GB of HDD space filled right now (I really need to get a 2TB drive, but I don't have the money for it) and I use ~100GB of bandwidth a month (I keep track of it with a program I downloaded, it keeps graphs of days, weeks, and months and stuff and the data uses)

Get a Bachelor's first and then decide.
In fact, since you seem unsure of a major, I'd say to get an Associate's degree, which is just the 2 years of gen eds required for a Bachelor's, and in those 2 years decide what you want to do. Take some psychology classes as a part of your gen ed credit (which will transfer to your Bachelor's/major credit if you choose to do Psychology, and count towards your gen ed if you choose not to). After taking those classes, you should have a better understanding of if it's something you'd be interested in.

Just remember that psychology splits into a ton of different fields that are very different. There is clinical, where you sit in a room and talk to people about their problems. And experimental, where you do research on people and pretty much revolve everything about statistics and science. They are the main two. Then there are focuses like Social, which is studies of how the presence of other humans changes human behavior. Cognitive, which is the study of how our minds think. etc., etc. The focuses are things you won't really have trry about until after you get your Bachelors and go for the PhD. You'll probably take some classes on them in your Bachelor's, but it's more of a "well-rounded" kinda introductory class. When you get to Master's/PhD, you'll take mostly classes only about that one subject. They're good to know about so you'll know if there is a field of psych you'd be interested in.

If you are more into the "helping people personally" aspect, clinical/addiction-studies.

I was thinking of getting into clinical actually. So at least that part I've sorted out. C: I think going for my Associate's is actually a pretty good idea. I didn't think that about going that route so this leaves me open for new opportunities/things to think about. I'm actually going to be talking to my boyfriend's psychologist who's had his own practice since like the 70s to give some perspective on the job and what it entails. To be honest I want to get into this field because in real life it seems like I spend the majority of my time counseling people anyways. I do find it rewarding and something I enjoy. I just sort of want to go to school to refine it, continue my education, and understand more I guess. Haha

Woah WTF? Average is 18? My school's average is like 27 lol. I thought 25 was horrible. It's just a normal public high school too.
