Yeah, that's what I did, I have FL Studio and it's amazing for beginners. After you get pretty good with FL Studio, I would move onto Ableton. It's a bit more advanced and a bit harder to get used to, a steeper learning curve. If you're going to pirate FL Studio though, you should pirate some samples too, beats and melodies and stuff like that to use in your songs. FL Studio comes with a lot, but they kind of suck haha.

9 times out of 10, you'll have to buy them, but you can find them available for Torrents.
You can also go to Free Loops Beats Samples Apple Loops Acapellas Vocals Sounds FX Tutorials Vsti Plugins
Make an account and download as many samples as you want.
