What is your prospective major? Unless its art/music intensive you don't really need a mac. If its computer intensive you'll need to run windows or something third party more than likely.
C0ffin's computer situation: Took laptop to best buy where I bought it, was actually a good deal and the poster child of Asus's gaming laptop fleet the year I got it. Told them fan was wearing out and as a result I had cooling concerns. Said they'd check fan and hard drive and call about me to discuss what would be replaced, with what, and how. Never called, a week later they call and say come get it. They did a data back up on a 750 gig external hdd for no reason and made me pay for it and the transfer, did not replace fan, check hdd to tell me it was fine, removed some maleware and fucked up all my setting. I'm going back as soon as term paper is done and finals are over, demanding my money back getting the fan fixed, and raging till they give me some free shit.
Idiots even sent me a survey about how they did. I typed a page in a half that culminated in me tell them to close shop because a monkey could have more directly dealt with my computer issues. I knew I could fix it myself but if I fuck something up then I have a broken laptop, if they fuck something up I get a new one.
This is 16 if anyone is counting, not counting the first post.
