This is the amount of money the US has allocated for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, to be spent by September 30, 2006, the end of the fiscal year. And the Senate is working on a spending bill that will add another $50 billion more in spending for 2007.
This pile is 125 feet wide, 200 feet deep, and 450 feet tall.
450 feet is the height of a 38-story building. It's the hieght of the Millenium Wheel in London. It is also the height of the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas and the Louisiana State Capitol Building.
If you were to stack the money in a single stack, your stack would be 19,887 miles tall, enough to wrap the Moon at its equator almost 3 times.
What would we do with all this money if we weren't getting revenge on a small group of people for killing an even smaller group of people? Probably spending it on something stupid like health coverage for every last American.

I dont do politics that much, but i have to agree. In my opinion we've wasted enough money, lives, time, and grief on them.

Ok, its bull that combat is over. 50,000 armed troops are in Iraq. Receiving combat pay. Combat in name or not they fight and some will die. Obama is just fucking up the war effort. If we pull out of both as planned the region collapses and extremists are back in power in a year and pissed to hell at us. The war regardless of original intent or cost has stabilized an dangerous area. Our presence keeps Isreal from attacking Iran, we're holding Pakistan together which is keeping them and India from killing each other, and the removal of a brutal dictator, and ending of a high anti-american group that had taken over a state and thus had far too many resources and possibilities. The money is well spent, non-state actors are extremely dangerous. If you allow the groups like Alqeda to exist you end up with them taking over states and then expanding their control and reach till they are able to destroy their enemies in the same fashion a industrialized nation could.
Health care is bogus. Its more likely to bankrupt us than the war. We're in more debt from many other things than the war effort.
