Food for thought:
Alister Crowley was able to "summon" demons and cast "spells" by using what he called "magik". His process involved sacrificing and raping virgins and summoning "demons" and using the power of the mind in combination with the intense energy released during sex and orgasm. He apparently had success. As almost every country in the world banned him from its shores and based the accounts given by many of him and his doings.
But no you can't mutter shit and just have it happen you need forces to in act, mainly other worldly ones that may or may not exist.
Prayer and meditation are documented as having measurable effect in reality as a direct result of the mind and will of a person though.
