Source: Report: Microsoft bans 1 million Xbox Live players | Geek Gestalt - CNET NewsIt's oh-so enticing: you find a copy of a brand new game like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on a pirate site and the temptation to download it is too strong.
Well, that temptation may have cost up to 1 million users of Microsoft's Xbox Live the ability to use that service. According to a report in InformationWeek, Microsoft has banned as many as a million players from Xbox Live for altering their consoles in order to play pirated versions of games.

I happened to be one of ones banned. But we didn't have MW2.
Doesn't matter though we have a backup console.

Is it wise to lose that much money in such a short amount of time? Though, I would bet most of them just recreated an Xbox live account.

I got banned...well my dad got us banned. He has the idea of chipping it for us, he's a big techie and believed we wouldn't get caught, so he got loads of games. We got Tekken 6 and now MW2.
Next day, BANNED.
Oh well, we're still gona get Assassin's Creed 2, no need for live on that anyway. xDDD
Plus we can still play these games offline and my live was going to expire in a week or two anyway. :/ Lol.

Because it turned my shot guns and sniper rifles into machine guns with no throw back :\
- 13 Nov. 2009 07:50am #18
Even with that, I doubt you would get 100 kill streaks. You do realize the average killstreak even if you have a modded controller is only at like 8-10.
You would not have enough amo to go with a 100 kill streak. Inhumanely possible. Even if you were to swap out guns with dead bodies.

Yeah anyways.
That sucks for those banned people, but like they deserve it, and it's sad that now both gaia and microsoft is playing dirty now.

Yea but Playing on live is way funner when you are bored I don't think chipping is worth it even though you save $100's of dollars.... but i don't know haha didint effect me

Which is why smart ones just soft mod their xbox instead of chipping it and ensuring that they only play Stealth patched games. If they were smart, they'd have 2 xboxs. One that remains offline so that they can enjoy pirated games, and one online that's legit for the big name multiplayer games that tend to be well worth the money it costs to get em.
- 14 Nov. 2009 10:59pm #25
Lol, my friend got hit by that.
I couldn't help but laugh when he told me.
He was using two pirated versions in his house, one on his elite, another on his original 360.

That's hilariously funny (:
I'm a big fan of pirating but i'm not silly enough to think i would gain the same benefits as if i owned the game.
It's fairly obvious that you can't go online with pirated games,
even if at some point it was possible - microsoft would have silent patched itConsequentialism - A Firm Beliver In The End Justifying The Means (:

Serves them right, but still...Somebody will find a way around this sooner or later, in my opinion...Unless it's tag based, but then what if they make a new tag or if somebody finds a way to mod the Xbox to get past the ban?

Haha Microsoft is Greedy there the ones putting up pirated versions and then eopel pay to get their xbox modded ( they make more money)
then they ban them but people get back on and buy even more microsoft live membership (MORE MONEY!)
Greedy

Not really, stores stock up on games before the release date to ensure they have enough to cater for the masses, sometimes, well all the time especially for big name titles, one or more of the workers steal and upload the games. It'd just be silly conspiracy theories to believe M$ are doing it on purpose. The ones doing it on purpose are the people actually modding their console seeing as how all of this is covered in their ToS.

I'm friends with one of the greatest hackers on LIVE. He does it all. Bans consoles left and right. Its great Microsoft can even touch him half the time. Throws me points when I need them. Good guy.
If you're gonna play pirated games before they are out you got to do it on a console you're never gonna connect to live.

damn that sucks hahaha.
