I've been researching Gaia bots recently as I am considering writing one myself..But I can't find good answers to a couple of critical, general questions and I found this site and was hoping you guys could maybe help me out (if I do end up writing this bot it will be publicy released ). When it comes to writing bots I like to be very, very careful. I like bots that people can run on their mains with very low possibility of getting caught, even if it doesn't make them insane amounts of gold like riskier bots might. I still don't know what sort of bot I would like to write.
How serious is Gaia's botting problem? It doesn't really look like they have all that much trouble with bots.
How sophisticated is their bot detection? Does it consist of any *smart* detection or do developers just troll around forums like this looking for bots to add detection for? How proactive are they about combatting bots?
Does Gaia retroactively ban for botting upon finding some sort of account activity pattern that is indicative of bot use? So for example if they find some oddity in an HTTP request that they decide is evidence of botting, will they look back in server logs and ban everyone who made that sort of request?
How well have other public bots been able to stay (relatively) safe? Looking in the public programs section, it looks like the majority are remaining safe to use?

Thinking of making a Gaia bot

As long as you dont post in forums i dont think you'll get banned. Not very fast at least.
No one every talks about people botting in the forums either so I bet not very many people bot. Also since gaia is forum based most people dont care about that kind of stuff.
Bots in the towns are easy to rat out if they run into a sector that has a lot of people in it.
If you do release one you should make it only for LG

They are pretty proactive at combating bots. At the very least, they are good at making it look like they're proactive at combating bots. But at the same time I've never been caught for anything I've done on Gaia, so it's possible that everyone who gets caught is just an idiot.
As I recently just made a bot, I'll report back if it ever gets me banned.

They've gone fairly lax on the botting scene because of the fact that no new bots have been developed, but now this forum is coming back to life, and so are bots. They have a fair amount of bot detection, all of their games look for correlations in data and statistics that could show botting, like a certain thing happens at a set amount of time every time you do it, like say if you spun slots every five seconds exactly, it would set off a bot alarm. From there, moderators/administrators look at the evidence against you (they have an anti-botting control panel type thing that shows botting reports) and if they indeed think you're botting then you'll be banned. Otherwise, they just throw it away as an error if they don't think you were botting.

Theoretically. I'll be testing this. I just ran my slots bot for some 10+ hours. It's still running fine. No flood alarm triggered with a 5 second interval as there was with a 3- second interval. With each bot I make, I'll be testing it myself to check for bot detections.
