Child Abuse
I think it's simply wrong. There's no reason to abuse of innocent kids. Please discuss.

"of a innocent kids"?
Also, what if they're not innocent?

That's still wrong. You shouldn't hit kids.

So, let's say, a kid is kicking the crap out of someone, and the only way to stop it is violence, you say it's wrong?

You have a point there, but lets say the kids getting hit were the innocent ones?

I think he's talking about abuse, not in defense of someone else.
Abusing someone is a lot different from smacking some kid to save another.

In any case hitting a child frequently can actually give them temperament and anger issues. Which just make the situation worse if you have an unruly kid.

If you see a kid beating another child you restrain the assaulter so he can't hit the other child anymore, you don't smack him around. I'm not saying violence is never the answer, but in that situation it obviously isn't.

Clovs: in that case, why stop at child abuse?
Any kind of abuse is simply worng.

Exactly. At least that's my stance on it.
Any abuse verbal, physical, spousal, sexual, mental, ect abuse is wrong.

Lol, well you'd have to go on further explanation as to WHY violence is the only way to stop. I can't figure a scenario where violence could be the only solution unless the kid was the incredible fucking hulk and he was infected with the disease from 28 Days Later. I think that'd be a bit of a special case ;1 But I guess it wouldn't be worth the time to make up a scenario since as Clover said it wouldn't be the kind of abuse he's referring to in the first place.

I think that its fine to hit a child to teach them a lesson but not to the point were you are really really hurting them.
My parents hit me when i was younger but ive learned from it and i think it made me a better person and i love my parents.

What constitutes child abuse?
I was hit as a child for being stupid or doing something wrong.
You say child abuse I go to molestation which is wrong in my opinion but lets face it at some point pedophiles will be excepted into society.
#13
Excessive violence when raising a child never necessary.
There is a difference between corrective "force" vs actual abuse. (Though I'm not too keen on physical punishment.)
I'm talking about full on being hit in the face, being strangled, thrown into walls, and being attacked for trivial things. (I.e. Spilling something, getting sick, unexplainable reasons)
That would constitute as child abuse rather than corrective physical punishment.
#14
I was smacked across the face, punched, spanked, my mother beat me with paint sticks, and once hit me with a cutting board and chastised for blocking it. I don't think any thing but the last one constitutes child abuse. Unless both physical and psychological harm are needlessly applied does it constitute any thing malicious. All sexual acts with a minor constitute abuse as well in my thinking. Ultimately corrective physical punishment fails to teach if it isn't inflicting pain. Conditioned behavior is real, providing pain and pleasure to re-enforce or deter behavior is effective in animals and human. Children are in a sense more animal than human mentally due to under-development. It stands to reason pain would be a powerful motivator for them, same as say a dog. I'm not saying children are animals I'm commenting on a undeveloped human and a practice that I think is there by effective for one in that state.
Just my thoughts.

I honestly don't think pain is a good motivator. It's actually been proven positive enforcement works better than negative physical reenforcement on dogs. Excessive physical reenforcement can actually cause anger and anxiety issues. Here are just a few websites that explain why:
Why a dog should not be hit - by Sammy Stein - Helium
http://ezinearticles.com/?Never-Hit-a-Dog-When-Dog-Training&id=1033027
Professionals also suggest you should never hit your dog.
See I'd consider that possibly child abuse depending on how often it happened. I was strangled until I nearly blacked out, thrown into walls and doors (I have a dent in my skull because of it), back handed across the face for spilling soda on my sister, had my toys and bed broken, ect. This would happen on a pretty much daily basis until I was like five or six and went to live with my mom. I really think the only thing it taught me was to be angry. As a child the more I was hit the more I acted out and after a while I just became use to it. Like it was something completely normal. I actually started punishing myself as a child by slapping myself in the face or slamming my head into walls. Which I don't think is close to healthy or normal. Though I can say other factors may have played into that. Such as my dad doing the same thing to himself, seeing my dad beat my step mom, and my biological mom. I think when your present physical violence as a way to show your displeasure or unhappiness with something your child is going to pick that up. That's how I started showing my own displeasure with things, by acting out physically. I'm going to sound like one of those creepy serial killers or something but I started hurting other children and animals when I was unhappy with them because that's how I thought it worked. You hit something when you're mad and that's what you do. I think physiological abuse can also be just as bad if not worse in some case.
Physical, Physiological, and borderline sexual abuse can make one really fucked up child. I could go on and on about the consequences of the different forms of abuse but I'll stop here for now.
In any case I feel any kind of abuse is abuse. What defines abuse to me is the excessive use of it. When it comes to sexual abuse any kind sexual interaction with a child whether it be words, suggestions, or physical not matter how small is abuse to me. I also think server neglect is a form of abuse as well.
Anyways these are just my opinions based off my own experiences. Sorry for the long rant there. D:

This is quite a controversial thing here...
No matter how bad child abuse is in America, it won't be as bad as what's happening in Africa. That ought to lighten child abuse a bit.
Child abuse alters a child's thinking habits. Most serial killers were abused as a child. Most dictators were abused as a child.

I was beaten for doing stupid things, just like Coffin; and now, like twelve years later, i totally understand and don't mind it, because it helped them to raise me the way i am now :D
But to be honest, American kids need a damn good disciplinary beating; but the alcoholic parents just don't know how to administer it.
Like belt to the butt.
My mom did three spanks as a kid (heavy hand)
First - Doing something bad.
Second - To make sure i understood its bad.
Third - So i could remember not to do this in the future.

I agree completely with anyone who says that there's no reason for a kid to be abused.
There are other ways to teach a kid that what they're doing is wrong, and abuse is damaging both psychologically and physically.

On a similar note, neglect can be just as dangerous.
I've heard of kids being left in a room with a loaded gun and shooting themselves, but just because you don't have a loaded gun in your house doesn't mean you can leave your kid alone.

I've heard a story about a baby getting it's toes and fingers eaten off from being left alone with a puppy for an hour.
Stories about babies getting into medicine (Just because it says it's locked and child-safe, DOESN'T mean that a four year old couldn't learn to open it!)

Parents need to get with the program. Kids can't take care of themselves and they need a watchful eye almost 24/7 for 9-12 years.
If that's too big of a responsibility for you, don't have sex.

Abusing kids and not taking care of them is bad parenting and the parents should be sent to Jail for it.

I wouldn't say that.. more like they should have their kids taken away and/or have to pay a fine.
Some should definitely be taken to jail though.
#21
CPS would just take the kids to a foster home which isn't really a good thing for the kids.
#22
Um.. if the parents are in jail, they'd be taken away anyways..
#23
Children are terrible, demonic creatures. Either abuse them, shoot them between the eyes, or splash holy water on them as soon as they give you lip.
#24
@Frostbite; What an extremely terrible thing to say. Sure there are a few unruly ones, doesn't mean they deserve to be shot between the eyes.
It's not funny. Even if you're just kidding, children dying is no laughing matter.
#25
No one deserves to be abused period. Whether they are a child or an adult. Sad thing however, is that there will always be people who abuse others.
#26
If my parents were taken to Jail i wouldn't get taken away i'm old enough to fend for my self.

/facepalm.

That's not how it works. You have to be of legal age to make your own decisions.

Emancipation allows you to live on your own so if you had one you can do whatever you want.

You can't be emancipated as a minor without your parents consent.

Go to court tell the Judge you want one and pay the cost it's not that hard..

You have to be 18+ to do it without consent of your parents. You should really go read some time.

My parents would let me do it if i had the money to pay for a house.
