Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp is a really cool actor and seems like a generally cool guy. For instance, if I walked in to see Johnny Depp having sex with my girlfriend I'd be like "oh hi. Is that Johnny Depp on top of you? Ok, have fun". And then Johnny Depp, being the all around brilliant person that he is, would be like "you can stay and watch if you want." Then I'd be like "no thanks, Johnny Depp. Just remember to put a blanket on her when you leave. She gets cold easily."

Discuss: Johnny Depp. Do you like his acting? favorite movies he was in? Would you defy him if he slept with your girlfriend?

He is a brilliant actor, seeing that he is able to do serious and comedic roles; and be great at them both. Plus side, he sings nicely. May not be the best in the world, but Sweeney Todd is one of my favorite movies he is in. I have yet to see him in Alice In Wonderland. Dying to watch it.
#4
Yeah im wanting to watch that to but i like Johnny

I've heard...negative things about his role in Alice in Wonderland (well, about that whole movie in general)
But nothing I've seen him in has let me down so far, so I'm sticking to it :)

He makes an excellent Pirate. xD And when I saw Nightmare on Elm Street, I didn't know that was his first movie :p what a great start

He's a great actor.
Pirates of the carribean is my favorite so far.
Alice in Wonderland might be my next.
#7
I agree. Pirates of the Caribbean was one of my favorite movies he was in. Aside from Edward Scizzorhands, of course :)

He was in so many movies I didn't know about!
I seen him in some old west movie before, and wondered what the hell. He seemed a little out of place in it, but I guess that was because I was used to seeing him as a drunken pirate during the time xD

xD he was? I love westerns. I'll have to check that out :p He looks like he'd make a pretty good old western bandit.

The movie was Dead Man (1995) I believe. I googled it and read the plot of that one, seems similar to what I watched.

*reads the plot* of course, he's a murderer xD I think Nightmare on Elm Street and Edward Scizzorhands were the only live action movies I've seen him in where he was a good guy

(bad guy = hero)

He is somewhat of a good guy in Pirates of the Caribbean. If you look at the British army as the antagonist that tries to foil his plots xD

and wasn't he a good guy in he Secret Window. I didn't pay attention to that one. It was so long ago.

In a way, and the main point, yeah. ^^ From the other viewpoint he was a guy who stole someone else's story.

And yeah, xD Nightmare on Elm street was his very first movie in 1984

Yes I did :) I'm a huge Tim burton fan.

The only ones I think he wasn't in was 9 and Nightmare before Christmas.

I love Johnny Depp. He is an amazing actor. A very intelligent and eccentric person. He has played a diverse range of roles. But a lot play in with drugs + alternative culture. He is a fan of writers from the Beat Generation and it shows..

I love him in Blow.

Pirates of the Caribbean was his best work, IMO. He really got into the role pretty nicely. Made me laugh till I cried too. Yet, he was pretty sneaky when he needed to be.

Johnny Depp is a good actor, exactly the kind needed for a semi-serious comedic role, I'd say.

Yeah, I agree noob. Pirates of The Caribbean was great. I've always felt like johnny depp is a great actor. His very mysterious and funny, great qualities for an actor.
#20
OMG. He has always been my favorite actor, and Helena Bonham Carter my favorite actress.
Together, like in Alice in Wonderland or Sweeney todd, they're amazing xD
Pirates of the Caribbean - best movies ever... besides Harry Potter :D (Edit: which Helena is in! XD)

Correction, was a great actor now he's just very cliche. To be critical his performances lately have all been basically the same. Some dumb character with a crazy accent and a childish yet insane disposition. Lately I don't believe he's showing any talent besides the cliche "zany" out their acting. Which is basically just a rehash of all the other characters he's played.

I use to love johnny depp back when he was in sleepy hallow and edward scissor hands. His career started going down hill after charlie and the chocolate factory. I doubt for me personally he will ever live that down. I have yet to see alice and wonderland but if it's like everyone says it is, it will be just like every new burton/depp movie that's come out.

I think Johnny Depp is so popular now even if he made a horrible movie, it would still be amazingly popular just because johnny deep is in it.
He's a pop icon, like twilight, or any other super main stream thing now.

I agree with clover :/ and think he's a bit over rated..
#23
Despite that highly disturbing first post, i do have a good view on Johnny Depp. I feel that he is an all around over-rated actor. Yes true, he has many movies to his name and credit, but most of them are subpar movies that were terrible on paper and in film.

Sweeny Todd, and Nightmare on Elm Street was two of his very limited great acting appearances, and he was only good in Nightmare because he got sucked into the bed and murdered by Freddy.
#24
Depp is a great actor, but I believe he is abusing his eccentric personality, which I must admit it did great in Chocolate Factory and Alice, but might not always be good.
I also think Tim Burton himself overuses Depp, for example in Alice, the Hatter had much more screentime than what he deserved.

I agree with you there. I would like to see Tim Burton focus on someone that won't guarantee him big bucks. I just take it he is the type of guy to stick with what is going for him.

Its kinda hard for Tim Burton to try and get focus on another actor since Depp is his only standby actor. Helena Carter is another standby, but lets face it, when Depp stops starring in movies for Burton, Burton will sink slowly into the shadows, and im not talking about the shadows in his mind.

:) One of my all time favorite scenes from that whole series. I wonder if they'll incorporate it into the remake.

xD how awesome would it be if Johnny Depp played the same character in the remake.

His acting is pretty good. Granted he gets type cast into those weirdo roles where he just kind of uses the same persona but he is capable of dynamic acting and does a good job all around.
The first Pirates movie and Alice.
I'd kick him in the balls while wearing a clown mask(he's afraid of clowns) and tormenting him about his past as a cutter if he slept with my girlfriend.

Met his dad a few times. He works in construction here in Florida and my father is run a civil engineering company that does business with him. Tagged along a few times to meeting and such, no where near as interesting as his son and his looks must come from his mother.

The remake will not have Johnny Depp in it, he declined to make an appearance in the film. Cant wait for it though, it should be good.

@COFFIN: Johnny Depp's typecasting is based more on the fact that he makes teen girls gineys tingle. In case you didn't notice, mostly only young teen girls go and see his movies relentlessly and incessantly. so the fact that he is has some good qualities in his character, the fact remains that he is a total wash of talent because he gets typed based on an pseudo-eccentric personality trait.

And since he is getting critical acclaim for those reasons, he is, in my opion terribly over-rated.

Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as the new Alice & Wonderland.

I dreaded his role in Charlie & the Chocolate Factory.

I'd slap da bitch. (If thats what your asking.) ((No "Giggity" with him))

I think I was one of the very few people on earth who liked the new Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Definitely not as good as the original, but I didn't think it was bad either.
#32
I'd rape him & spit out his babies.

His work in Edward Scissor hands, means if I fake a british accent and play Just Like Heaven I get a date for the night.
#34
Johnny Depp is a really good actor even if he is not the main role in the movie
I really love Pirates of the Carribean because Depp was so Epic in that movie
I also like his recent movie which is Alice in Wonderland he was also good in that movie
Would I defy him? no! I will f*cking slap the whore
#35
An okay okay for me. there are a few more better actors than him out there . . . but this guy does pack some variety.
#36
is johnny depp gay tho? it seem he is because of a lot of the role that he act seems very effeminate.

So far that theory is true-- would work on me.
Just combined my two weaknesses, fake British accents and The Cure.

Would it matter if he is or not? Does that change your opinion of his characters?

Frankly, Wouldn't change my opinion of Depp one bit.
