Acoustic VS Electric
What do you prefer instrument-wise as a listener?
...as a player?

Players:
Favorite qualities?
What has a better sound?
What has more versatility?

In reality I'm not sure one can compare them myself. Completely different monsters, though I favor the electric, while you can run distortion and effects on both now I think the electric allows you to achieve more sounds and subtleties and allows for pushing your music to great heights. But at the same time there are nuances to the acoustic instrument that can't be replicated, things like the sound and resonance.

I prefer to listen to the sounds of an acoustic. Dont get me wrong, electric guitars are the shit, but its just not the same to listen to.

What is better to play is electric, because when you play the electric variation, it sounds and feels better. Also it is much more asthetically pleasing to handle.

Depends on the song, both can can be equally pleasing in my ears, but to play I prefer electric.

You can get a lot more sounds out of an electric and do a lot more experimentation with it. That doesn't mean I don't love feeling the acoustic against me though, it's vibrations pulsing into my skin.
#4
Electric, but I'd listen to either one.
#5
Some acoustic are nice to listen to, but i'm more of the person that loves electric. Just because of the power cords that some metal bands have.
#6
As a beginner player i prefer the acoustic guitar. I think the sound and songs that can be played on it is more my kind but i still listen and would like to play the electric.

Which do I prefer as a listener? Electric, typically...
Which do I prefer as a player? Electric, I just feel so bad ass in comparison to a acoustic...

Favorite qualities?

Electric:
The wammy Bar... The cool technological sound of electric...

Acoustic:
The simple sounds... How much lighter they are than electric's...

What has a better sound?

Well it depends for what your are going for... They have two completely different sounds...

If you are going for the cool sound, I think electric sounds better...
If you are going for the southing, etc sound, then I think Acoustic...

What has more versatility?

Probably Acoustic...

As a listener: that goes to Acoustic. Twanging strings, and the ability to use it as a hand drum are just too amazing to deny.
As a player: Electric, just for the variability of the sound.

i like both
for listening and playing.

When it comes to listening I like acoustic if I'm feeling soulful, and electrics is im feeling rockin'.
Electric is really cool, but I like playing acoustic better. Maybe cause I'm a chick. =p
I like electrics distortions but I think acoustic speaks more, if you understand that.
It's not that either have a better sound, it just depends what you're in the mood for.
I think Electric would be more versatile because of all the ways you can change the sounds it produces.
#11
I have both. i prefer the sound of the acoustic its nice and mellow, electrics are just fun to play
#12
I like acoustic more. Sometimes electric geets right into your head but i can listen to acoustic anytime thats why i mainly love. Bryan adams was a good one its an old thing though. Still me votes for acoustic

Acoustic AND Electric both have mentionable qualities that make them both great instruments.
You cant compare and say one is better than the other, because one may be more appropriate for a situation, that doesn't necessarily mean its better.
Coming from an avid guitarest, both acoustic and electric, I can tell you they're both amazing instruments.

There is a guitar that is acoustic electric, but be warned that it is usually a smaller guitar with less frets.
However, I prefer electric guitars because of the # of frets and how i dont need long ass fingers to reach the 6th string.

I think you're limiting the guitars here, but saying electric has a "Cool sound" and that "Acoustic is soothing." I think that's what you meant. It all just depends on the player, the style of music and the effects being used.

How do you mean the acoustic is more versatile?

@ Coak - Acoustic electrics are usually exactly the same as an acoustic, save for the fact they have an input and pickup/s.

I like the sound of electric better then acoustic
#17
Electric FTW.

Yeah, but I know 3 people with acoustic electrics.
They're tiny as shit.
like 20 frets
They're basically just the mini guitars that are $50 cheaper than one with 2-4 more frets.
#19
I prefer electric.

Although acoustic is easier to learn/play

How is 20 frets tiny as shit, when an average guitar will have between 20-24? Plus higher end frets are a lot harder to reach and hold on an acoustic, so they're not really worth it.
#21
i like acoustic
#22
electric :] i dont like acoustic
#23
I prefer electric because you can add all kind of effects with an amp as for acoustic your kind of limited but the music is pleasant
overall electric is better.
#24
I think it depends on what kind of music you're trying to play. Like for example, if you're trying to do power metal like Versailles or Dragonforce, electric is the way to go.
But there is nothing more soothing than Gackt playing a ballad on his acoustic haha. :P
#25
AS a listner, I prefer electric.
because its more of a techno sound.
