Where have you been? Mexico is in a huge war with the drug lords and gangs. Its government is barely in control of the country. The warning is in hopes of make sure that their isn't hostage situations or murders.

Anyways, the reasons are the same as stated before. Mexico is not safe at the moment, don't you know anything of the drug wars going on at the moment? There are so many deaths, it's not even funny. They are killing police officers without hesitation, imagine what would happen if some Americans went to visit there.
