Automatically Lock Threads
Well, as gravedigging has been an issue as of late, I suggest that threads be locked after a certain time. There could be an option to allow it to automatically lock or not to lock. This would allow people who are running shops to update their threads without asking an admin to unlock it.
It's just a suggestion.

I agree, I've seen a lot of older threads from 09 being brought back up, and then people post something that they've already posted on because they can't remember, I think that people who gravedig should be given a warning.
I like this idea.

I think this has been suggested before and I agree.

There is no need. Lets face it, the power to lock threads doesn't need to be extended to members. If it were the JY or something like that, then yeah, whatever, but in normal sections and shit, no. There is a reason that particulr power belongs to staff, and staff level members.

I say yes to this in the JY, but as for any other part of the site, no. Earn it.

There wouldn't be a "lock" button that everyone could press, that would be nuts.

Maybe after a month or so of inactivity, the thread autolocks.

This is true, it would be nuts, but the fact remains that having an autolock function would not work very well.

vBulliten does have an autolock function, but it wouldnt make much difference from having staff do their job. Let them do their jobs.

Maybe if we can make a script where a user writes [lockthread] and the thread locks, but if it's abused, for example in JY to make lots of spam threads, then infractions?[/lockthread]

wouldnt work. vBulliten would need a custom script and even then that is bbcode. it just wont work.

There is no such thing as "Grave Digging" Threads. The only reason a thread should be closed after brought back is if it is a patched exploit, or something along the lines.

Gravedigging threads is posting in a thread that has not had a post for at least 3 weeks, minimum. so yes gravedigging does exist, but there are requirements, for example, 3 week death of thread, and any post that is not on topic is considered or constructive to the conversation it is spam and is gravedigging.

and closing threads just because of age could bogart the thread and not really allow it to be revived for constructive posts and conversation.

I'd say that gravedigging exists, probably even moreso on LG. Newbs go to old and abandoned threads to get their 50 posts for UG.

If you see an old thread, just report whoever that "gravedigged". A Moderator will close the thread and warn the user.
This is why there's a report button under your information.

Also, if you already sold whatever in the thread. You can just pm me to close it or report. I will be happy to close it for you <3 [Just make sure you have the correct subject "Close Thread" or something between those lines.]

Agreed, no need for auto lock... Plus then there would be a lack of good posts ( The forum "Default Thread Age Cut Off" would automatically delete the threads that were locked after a certain amount of time... )

Showing off your mod powers much? -.-

Love how you guys think there is so much spam. There really isn't. 80% of all the posts are safe spam, true, but still. You guys don't need to worry about spam, I mean hell, there's next to any that can actually be dealt with. Gravedigging is allowed, and who gives a shit if a month old thread just spammed? It's the same damn thing as a new thread being spammed. If you seriously think it's as bad as you obviously do, then report every damn post, and see how useless it is.

NOt to mention, a couple good guides are left to die after everyone's read them, thus the new ones don't get a chance.

So no, let the mods do their jobs.
