It's really easy, my friend did it for me.

Among a LOT of other things. Free apps, access to the iPod filesystem, apps that Apple won't let into the app store, and plenty of other things. I've had 2 different jailbroken iPods for about 2, and had no jailbreaking-related issues with them.

I'd say that the only downside is that Apple doesn't allow it, and it will void your warranty.

I'm thinking about buying my sister a ipod touch... her dad got her this shitty little mp3 player and she loves it, its like ghetto chinese crap, but she wants to watch movies and stuff on it.

Ipods are cool, I used to have a 2nd edition nano from their product(red) line, but once I got myself a zune I gave the ipod my sister.
