I started I Was Rejected So I Shaved And Took In A High Schooler. It started out really well. Protagonist isn't interested in underage girl, keeps yelling about how much he loved big titted older women, and generally acts for the good of the teenager. It's been refreshing - but this weekend they added a new character that blackmails and attempts to rape the teenager and then they try to kind of make him likeable to add to the cast. Was rough. Hoping things turn around.

Right now I'm watching Grimgar. I'm not sure how well known it is but I had never heard of it. It's an isekai but unlike all the others, the main characters are actually super weak and clueless throughout, so it's a struggle for them to even survive in the world. It's certainly a refreshing take compared to the rest of the genre.

I've watched quite a bit recently. My binge game has been pretty strong.

Dr. stone, Horimiya, Slime Isekai, Castlevania, Mushoku Tensei, Wonder Egg.

I wouldn't say any were particularly special in all honesty. I had high hopes for Wonder Egg, Horimiya and Mushoku but they were just okay in my book. I'll probably continue watching new seasons of Mushoku but probably not the other two if they get new seasons.

I still haven't got round to watching Log Horizon, Beastars 2 or Promised Neverland. My motivation to watch them has dropped so they will likely just spend the rest of eternity sitting in my plan to watch.

As for new shows, I'm looking forward to 86, Combatants Will Be Dispatched, To Your Eternity, Tokyo Revengers and Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song.

i love grimgar, it really deserved another season. post-anime depression when that one ended. the art style was something special.

had a really hard time following everything that happened in the new season of re:zero, felt like so much going on.

watched the pilot of wonder egg finally, seemed good enough to continue.

Yeah, Grimgar was really chill. I definite have a craving for more. I googled similar shows too it but it just came up with all the generic isekai shows rather than shows that are actually similar. If you've got any recommendations, I'm all ears.

Completely agree with you on the art style too, there was a scene at the start of one of the episodes with a really nice parallax effect. It was only a second or two but I watched it a few times because it was satisfying to look at.

I finished Grimgar and then watched through Dorohedoro, I love the world building in that one but the art style is a little off putting for me, curious to know what happens next with it though.

Haven't decided what I'm going to go for next.

I can't remember if we've talked about it here or not but Overlord was pretty good.

nothing really matches the fantasy immersion that grimgar had without being totally OP main character energy.

That and log horizon were what i watched going into that show.
#247
I'll check out Grimgar.

Overlord is good. Still waiting for the next season of it and Log.

Kind of waiting for a wave of shows honestly. Just keeping up with Acadamia right now.
#248
Not watching yet, but the next thing on my list is Yuukoku no Moriarty, I am really looking forward to it. Seems like a pretty interesting take on the Sherlock theme. :)
#249
I'll have to check it out.

I've been watching Slime Diaries which is a very chill slice of life spinoff of the isekai. It's been interesting.
#250
Nice! We're only a few weeks out on the new seasons finishing up so I've just been rewatching things until then. I watched through Shield hero and now I'm working my way through My hero academia.

Strangely, it seems I never watched the last episode of Shield hero because I remembered everything except that one. It must have still been airing when I watched it or something. I can't really think of any other reason why I wouldn't of watched it.

Late the party but watching demon slayer as of current. I haven't watched anything in a hot minute.

Started reading Solo leveling the other day, I didn't think it would be all that special but I got hooked pretty hard. I've been reading that, the first chapter of Berserk and I also read Remina.

Anime-wise, I've watched quite a lot since my last check-in, most recently Mushoku Tensei which everyone seems to like but I didn't really care that much for and Blue period before that which was pretty decent, made me want to get back into drawing again. I think my favourites though were probably Vivy, to your eternity and 86.

I am very excited for the anime adaptation for Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru.

bought the first for volumes of the manga and really love the main girl. refreshing slice of life/romcom around cosplay.

Been meaning to pickup on solo leveling, is the best way to just read it online?

Yeah, online is best unless you don't mind waiting. There's English physical editions but they only cover a fraction of the story. They go up to about chapter 45 out of 180 so far.

Currently watching Takt op destiny and then on to Faraway paladin.

@jetri you're braver than me, I see the episode count and just think "nope".
#265
I keep making myself watch Tact Op but I'm 95% it's just an ad for a video game and I don't like it. Maybe it will get better.

I'll have to check out Sono and Solo Leveling. I feel like Crunchyroll isn't funneling me good stuff any more so I may have to swap to another service.

I finished Takt op Destiny yesterday, I only found out it was linked to a game after finishing it. The premise seemed cool and I guess I didn't mind it but if you want an action anime with music aspects then I think Vivy from a few seasons back did a much better job.

My top 5 : Jojo bizarre adventures , Yū Yū Hakusho, 7 deadly sins, Tokyo Ghoul , One punch man

Solo Leveling ending was pretty rushed and trash. It was a large disappointment since I've been reading it for a pretty long time and they made the ending pretty sudden. Plenty of similar manhwas like Solo Leveling with decent storylines though Korean art looks plenty interesting (Overgeared, Return of the Disaster Class Hero, etc.). Also been trying to catch up to Berserk. First I discovered it was through the Musou game version of it.
Just got back into digital art and bought myself a tablet without a screen a week ago just to refresh my muscle memory. Haven't done art from scratch for a long time.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that way. I was really pumped for it until Jeju Island, it started to fall apart for me after that. I read Chainsaw man after that but I was much less invested than I was with solo. I've got berserk on my list next but I'm reading the Dune novels at the moment so it will be a while before I pick up another manga.

It's funny you should mention digital art, I bought a new Wacom tablet over Christmas and I'm very slowly working my way through some online anatomy classes. I'm awful and it's slow going finding the motivation to keep at it but hopefully I'll get there.

As for anime, I just finished The faraway paladin which left me feeling disappointed which is a shame because much like Takt op I was really looking forward to watching it. I'm not sure what I plan on watching next, Sonny Boy perhaps.

Miss KUROITSU from the Monster Development Department is interesting. I've watched a couple episodes of it. Hoping to look at The Case Study of Vanitas this week cause vampires.
#271
I was reading gate and hoping it gets a new season honestly.
The fact its literally a CIV 5 anime where Japan cucks a fantasy realm with modern day tech is hilarious.
#272
Gate was a great show. It should definitely get picked up. I think the debates around the SDF from the time period that ran probably are what undid the anime.
#273
Booked the week off for my birthday and I've been catching up on some anime among other things, watched Mugen train and the entertainment district arc of Demon Slayer then I watched the three newish fate/stay night movies and now I'm watching the Evangelion movies. Nothing has been all that remarkable so far but there's some pretty sick fight scenes in both Demon Slayer and Fate.

Manga wise, I'm working my way through Berserk, I'm about a third of the way through now.

Never heard of gate but it sounds interesting, I've added it to my list. On your description alone, it reminds me of Outbreak company though that was more of a comedy, I'm guessing this is not 😅
#274
Gate is very much like Outbreak Company.

I watched the entertainment district arc recently and it was fine. I keep meaning to watch the new EVA movies.

I checked out World's End Harem because of the buzz and found it super boring.

I just finished them yesterday. One and two were about what I expected from the series but I was pleasantly surprised by 3 and 4. There's sort of a Gurren Lagann vibe going on in 3 which I wasn't expecting and the first half of 4 is pretty much like a slice of life with the main characters just dealing with what's happened and coming to terms with shit which I really appreciated.

Not going to lie though, in typical EVA fashion I finished it with way more questions than I had answers. I had no clue what was going on in the second half of 4, still an enjoyable watch though.
#276
It's time for my biennial visit to only post in this thread.
I didn't watch as much this last season.
Of course Kimetsu no Yaiba and Shingeki no Kyojin. Sono bisque doll, Arifureta 2(sorry not sorry), Sabikui Bisco, Takegi-san 3, Akebi chan no Sailor-fuku (Cloverworks did pretty good work this season, but wtf is the author's obsession with feet), Shenmue and last but not least, Osuama Ranking. If I was going to recommend a single anime from this season is Ousama Ranking, watch it.
For the upcoming winter 2022 I'm planning to watch a whole bunch of stuff, including but not limited to:
Shieldbro 2, Kaguya-sama 3, Spy x Family, Komi-san 2, Bookworm 2 and a whole bunch of isekai that are going to be airing.
I will be now taking questions about my dumpster level anime taste.

Sounds perfect. I love analyzing EVA.

I mean, I've been so out of touch that I'm taking any suggestions so I'll look over these. I was on CR the other day trying to find something to watch and never finding anything.

They added a bunch of stuff recently since they merged with Funimation.

Faraway Paladin is pretty good. I really enjoyed My Dress Up Darling.

I wasn't all that impressed with Faraway Paladin when I watched it, the trailer looked promising and the first couple of episodes seemed really interesting but after the initial set up it seemed to fade into a pretty generic isekai from what I recall. If I went in expecting that I probably wouldn't have minded it but I think I went in with my expectations too high.

I'm looking forward to My Dress Up Darling, it's next on my list after I finish Ranking of Kings, which is decent but it is admittedly struggling to keep my attention. Before that though, I watched AoT hoping to find out how it all ends only for them to reveal that they're doing another "final" season next year. The wait continues I guess. If you're not up to date, it may be worth waiting until it's over and then watching all the "final" seasons together.

I also watched Perfect Blue over the weekend and really enjoyed that, I look forward to rewatching it again in the future.
