Religion does not make people stupid. Some stupid people use religion as a justification for their stupidity, some stupid people use science, some use philosophies. Some stupid people use atheism just like the idiots that use religion.
When you associate religion with stupidity or as a justification for your own beliefs then you become what you hate.
