So LG what's your opinion on this? Personally I'm buying more cookies.
Being a past member of the girl scouts the idea of a transgender seven year old in the scouts doesn't bother me. Especially considering the girl scouts as a whole are fine with the idea. The girl scouts have no religious affiliation to uphold (like the boy scouts) so that argument is out. Also for the argument that the child should just join the boy scouts chances are bobby wouldn't get accepted. (Since they don't allow atheists or gays. I'm not sure they're the most tolerant people.)
Edit: It also bother me you can tell this girls views are based at least partly on her religion. (Siting baptist press as a source.) In my opinion the way she speaks seems as if there is some genuine dislike to transgenders in general.
What's your opinion Lg?
(Also put this in the JY because no one visits the GD)
Quick note from an Eagle Scout, the Boy Scouts allows you to join regardless of religious beliefs. They have a strong Christian affiliation and morals and Christianity play a large role but that doesn't prevent someone from joining. The only case where religious belief might be held against you is if you're atheist and attempting to become an Eagle Scout. Hard to live up to tenets of Scouting that include faith and service to god and country if you have no god.
I don't believe a seven year old is adequately developed for you to decide if its transgendered or for it to decide if its transgendered. Boys can join the Girl Scouts last I check so I don't really understand whats going on. The Girl Scouts support homosexual marriage, birth control, and abortion. Its a leftist organization by definition, I don't know why they have a problem with this kid.I think that its likely they would allow Bobby to join but considering that he would be teased
mercilousy I can't see why he'd want to. An honestly the transgender thing wouldn't even play that big of a role in it, teenage boys are just jackasses to each other in general.
For people that don't know:
BSA=privately funded organization=can decide who is allowed in
GSA=federally funds=can't decide who is allowed in

I think that may be considered a grey area. "The Boy Scouts of America's position is that atheists and agnostics cannot participate as Scouts (youth members) or Scouters (adult leaders) in its traditional Scouting programs. According to the Bylaws of the BSA" So I suppose that only applies to youth members and leaders though that isn't the most reassuring thing.
On a side note the girl scouts themselves have no problem with this child (or transgender people) (though there was an issue when the child first wanted to join) it's the girl depicted in the video who does. She's calling for all others to boycott the girl scouts because of their stance on allowing transgenders. Though it's only really become an issue as of recently, the girl scouts have allowed transgenders in before this. While I agree seven is probably to young too distinguish such an idea I'm not really seeing what the problem is. Her argument is about how transgenders as a whole should not be allowed in the girl scouts so I don't think this is just about the seven year old. As far as girl scouts being "left-wing" I suppose that's possibly. However I guess I don't see the problem because the main ideals of the girls scouts is to be respectful, kind, and helpful to those around you.
Edit: Personally it taught me how to make friends and respect other people.
I dont get it, its more people to sell cookies. Who cares who sells them? O__o
Uh? Did you even watch the video or read the article. It has nothing to do with who is selling cookies.
It has to do with a girl saying "boycott the girl scouts because they allow transgender people".
I was in scouts with atheists, both as a Cub and a Boy Scout. There really isn't any way to enforce that rule considering you show up and say I want to be in the Boy Scouts, buy a uniform, and start paying dues and you're in the Boy Scouts.
I assumed the girl had some sort of official backing that didn't want transgender in the Girl Scouts. If she's a lone voice calling for a boycott based on anti-transgender regulation I don't think it matters. I'm pretty sure they legally can't deny membership to any one that isn't a criminal.
I ddn't say the left-wing thing as a negative. I'm just saying they promote what is considered a leftist agenda. My sister was a Girl Scout, it was a good thing for her, just as Boy Scouts was a goo thing for me and I've turned into the most apathetic catholic to ever live. The focus of both organizations is to prepared young people for life and give them a positive experience. They do it differently. My sister camped out in a museum and learned about being respectful and such, I built a shelter in the woods and lived in it for three days in a survival scenario and taught to be prepared for all situations.
Honestly Girl Scouts is probably more developmental for you as a person, cause Boy Scouts can be (if you're not some sissyass troop) a quasimilitary organization.

Oh durr, happens when your multitasking sorry ;__;
I dont see what the big deal is, Just because they allow transgenders? Maybe shes had a bad experience with one?

Is it bad to say I actually think I enjoy debating with you since at times we have very different view points? Haha
At least you're one of the main people I feel as if there is some challenge to debate with. (I don't mean that in a bad way.)
In any case no she has no real backing except the people who want to return the girls scouts to being "pure" and "clean". (They are basing it on a religious view point HonestGirlScouts.com | How Girl Scouts and Planned Parenthood connect and more!) Which was never what the girl scouts were about in the first place. Anyways, she was trying to bring attention to this by suggesting the boycott. However I think her intentions backfired because now people are planning on buying more cookies in order to support the scouts. As far as the boy scouts I assume they still have under tone of brother hood but probably has just as much to do with being prepared/survival? I will agree I think the girl scouts is more about social survival and personal growth. Back when I was in the scouts we mostly did things that would be considered fun. We had some really cool bonfires, made things, sold stuff, I think it really taught me how to be more out going. At least in the sense of building goals, doing things, understanding others. Kind of interesting now that I see the different aspects of each group.
