You require more motivation that "too happy". Are you "too sad" or is the break up bothering you? Its generally pretty hard for humans to be cruel without some high compulsions.
But yeah, that makes you a douche unless you have some higher logical reason for doing so. I tear girls' and their lovers apart but I do it to destabilize their relationships and then date them or at least be friends with benefits r because I know said lover to be a jackass or something.

To be honest I'm actually a very cynical person so... Not really.
Edit: Guess what I mean is. I do think it's a bit much but I could understand why he possibly did it.
As long as they didn't do anything illegal, or extremely creepy(or both), I don't think telling her parents is going too far.
