Why is it weird? Urban Israel is awesome place. Actually from what I know of you, I'd agree.

I was expecting Scotland, Turkey, Brazil, Portugal. I've never looked too far into Israel or Chile, I'm gonna look them up now.

Israel is a cool place. The cities(like Tel Viv) are very modern and while its not exactly multicultural its an interesting culture. The jazz scene is out of sight. Now if you get into some of the rural areas or go north or south or Jerusalem you get several variations of the racial jew(European, Russian, Native,ect), Palestinians, and people that calls themselves christian. I had a professor that I've taken a bunch of classes with from Israel. I'm poli. sci. with a focus on international relations so we've discussed Israel at length.
