How it goes.
You could try building a pickup, that's always fun and you get cool sounds and such. Also try adjusting your pick up heights for different tones.
You want to specifically mess with distortion try doing amp distortion, you get a lot of control there.

this is why i dont understand why people don't just get a digital guitar. with the cool lightup touchpad frets

I was gonna do my own pick-up next. Possibly run through the output through old LED's for funsies.

Because then it would not be a guitar, it would be a keytar. The only time it is acceptable to play keytar is if: a. you are in dragonforce, be in the 80s, or c. a hot indie chick. How would I do string bends, play harmonics, or utilize over tones? Your pathetic digital "guitar" can do none of this and sounds like what its made of, plastic and shit. Wood, shape, pickups, and a thousand different things about the way a guitar is made make the guitar sound the way it does and each is different and special.
You know what is awesome? Having the skill to play an actual musical instrument. You know what's pathetic? Playing with a toy.
What you are suggesting is not only stupid but heresy of the highest form and I pray your soul is devoured by Satan himself and the excrement you then produce is flung into a pool of molten led and fire and the only solace you'll have is the screams of a thousand demons as they cheer for Satan and his metal band.

I've always wanted to build one out of plywood, because why not.

You could also do a prepared guitar...which would be like a prepared piano which hasn't been done. Still that is, yeah.
I want to build a cascading amp/speaker. Essentially I want it to be three amps, one for ever two strings. I want to have two and play with them setup in a stereo fashion.
Speaking of stereo output, if you have such a device you can use multiple pedals between the outputs and speaker to create a crazy sound.

What is the point in buying 6 different guitars and tons of accessories, When you can get one flawless guitar where you can filter the output and the way it resonates and picks up the input?

Music does not rely on perfect.
It's the way people prefer FM synthesis over digital synthesis, the imperfections sound better.
