I fucking hate how women are treated

alright..so my friend is 17, female. Last week she told her parents that blood was coming from her a**s...her mother told her that it was her period and she should worry about it. The next day she calls me and asks me what I think it may be, since I used trk as a medical assistant(volunteer work, I ask her if it is coming from her a**s and not her vaginal line. She says yes, and tells me its been happening for 2 weeks now and that it only happens after she defecates.

I call her parents and we chat. I tell t hem it is not her period that is causing the bleeding and that they should take her to the doctor. THEY LAUGH AT ME and tell me that I wouldnt know anything about that, even though they work as frycooks with no medical knowledge.

a month passes and her parents dont find it odd that her so called "period" has lasted this long and she gets very unhealthy looking..she vomits frequently so her parents take her to the doctor...guess what? turns out she has colon cancer.

The doctors say she needs to start emergency kemo, and theres a big chance she will not live, however they said if it had been discovered earlier on...say 3 weeks earlier they could have caught it before it got bad.

If she had been a man this wouldnt have happened and I just know it.

Im very, very pissed off.

Shit, I would be pissed off too. She's got all of my support and best wishes.
If her parents are responsible for her death, don't let them forget it.

She lives with her parents. She's been told she's okay so she probably believed them despite how she felt.
especially since "you're okay" is a good thing to hear and strive on when you're worried.

People don't make sense.
Her parents are probably like my dad.
I love him to death, he's a fantastic guy, but any sort of thing that could possibly be wrong or out of place, "Don't worry about it. It's fine" or "You'll be fine, it's nothing" just to avoid having to do more that day.
It all comes down to a lazy factor. Or just not doing something because you simply don't want to.

Sadly being female makes you a joke in the medical field. A lot of things get blamed on your period. An interesting fact is quite a few times when a woman has appendicitis it ends up getting dismissed by doctors as just "period cramps". Especially if you're near or on it. So as sad as it is to say it doesn't surprise me her parents were that stupid. That doesn't however make me rage any less. I'm sorry about your friend and hope there is at least a small chance she gets better.

I'm suspecting a hole in this story though. Symptoms of colon cancer aren't bleeding out the ass after pooping, it's blood in the poop. And if her friend told her that something WAS wrong and she was like "Oh well, I'll just listen to my parents who say bleeding out the ass also counts as your period."

Just sensing something wrong here...

I think it's probably not that she believed her parents but more so was just agreeing with them as not to start trouble.
