My church asked me to learn how to play the bass since the drum spot got taken

Started yesterday so I know nothing of chords or tabs and they let me borrow their Fender bass and I was wondering if any of you guys know some good songs I could learn or stuff I could learn.

I'm looking for a tutorial on how to read them and such

Example of a guitar tab:

e---------------------
B---------------------
G---------------------
D----4------0---------
A-2-----2-------------
E---------------------


That's the strings of the guitar, highest pitch at the top, lowest at the bottom.

For this tab, you'd play second fret A, 4th fret D, 2nd fret A, then an open D.

Make sense yet?

I always thought guitar tabs were upside down from how they should be. Stupid things.

so for a 4string bass
The A would be on the far left string on the second fret from bottom to top?

Not real. Biggest Zeppelin freak ever, I listened to the record backwards, I played it backwards digital too, doesn't work. You can get it to do the satan thing on the comp. but you have to consider two things. Its not the regular playback speed or something that any one could have pulled when song was made and Led Zeppelin(mostly jimmy) was not for the digital remaster of their songs because they felt it destroyed the sound.

Ultimate guitar has bass tabs...sometimes.
Bass is bottom(top) four strings of guitar just an octave lower. I can play bass, I don't like to I prefer guitar.
Most bass isn't chords or the stuff I've played isn't if you learn fret board you can just hit single notes as you're supposed to.
