そうだ is more something you use when you're agreeing with the person speaking.
Like after someone spoke.

The actual sentance was a lot longer

And if you translate using google translate... you get something funny XD

I came across it when playing a japanese game and translating with google. So in a way, yes I used google, but not in that direction
