Gaia and bargaining skills.

It's tough and people always haggle up when you try to haggle down.

I'm not sure if this should be here but anyway.

The other day in real life my friend was going to buy a university textbook off of a friend of a friend.
She was to scared to talk to him, but she wanted the price lowered. I've gotten use to the way people on gaia haggle.

Long story short, the asking price was 80, had a bit of talk on prices I found at 50-56 and I was expecting him to haggle up 10 more dollars toward his first asking price.

But he immediately said "okay, I'm good with that."
I got so use to gaias' market that I was shock he didn't ask for the price to be upped.

Has gaia influenced anyone else in how they interact/expect with people irl?

I think IRL money matters more to people so they just go with whatever they can get the quickest

It is because people know that if they shoot too high with real currency that people will be turned down and instantly walk away. I haggled a lot in Key west because it is still mostly local shops there. They still try to upcharge you out the ass, like some people will. It just depends on the item being haggled, and the situation.

True for gaia as well. Think of the book as a lesser item, compare to the brand new dress i bought in key west as a more rare item. It took me 40 minutes of arguing/flirting/logic to drop the price from $85 + tax to a flat 40$ with no tax.

People tend to care about 'bidders' more in real life than on Gaia.

I can see the relation.
I hardly haggle with people in real life.
Because I have no money to buy anything anyways.
But...if I were to buy stuff, I'd probably haggle in a similar fashion to how I do on Gaia. xD

That true Gaia will influence your attitude towards different situation because people go to Gaia as a "release" and they are able to be themselves. But in this matter, I agree with Use money matters and they'll go with what is quicker because this economy has made us solely dependant on it's devaluating currency.

When I haggle, it's usually against older asian ladies, which try to haggle up hard.
For trinkets and shiny things or large amounts of groceries.

Dang.
40 minutes, but you more or less halved the price.

It is, by a whole lot.
I hadn't really thought of it that way, I just kept thinking that it'd take a while to get the price down.

When I haggle with ol' azn ladies I do it basically the same way I do on gaia.

So.
Most normal people care more about bidders in real life, and they know if they try to shoot too high they might just be shot down.
Situation is a key factor as well as how quickly they want to be rid of the item.

And the elderly asian ladies whom I haggle with in china town are as harsh and persistent as sellers on gaia.

My bargaining skills are just horrid.

Well, bargaining in the Exchange forums has made me changed how I actually haggle prices in real life. So yea, I guess it has affected me in some way.
