To deal with an account on hold and what is the likelyhood it will get banned?

On hold is just a placeholder for banned. I've had accounts on hold for years.
I suppose you could try to appeal it, but I doubt anything will come of it.

Damn, I really didn't even do anything on that account tho, also they put my brother on hold today too and he hasn't even been on since March, any thoughts on this?

Probably was found through inspection of your account or was previously flagged.

Flagged doesn't automatically mean reported. Your account can be automatically flagged as well, for example if you are gifted a valuable item, they will often flag it for inspection.

It's really not that difficult. There are several ways they could do it, but the way i think they do it is a check on all gifts/trades and if a gift is sent to someone of an abnormally high value, flag both accounts, which would probably be added to a queue for mod inspection.

I don't know the threshold for price or quantity but I believe it's serving similar to account inactivity suddenly becoming active and doing nothing but gifting it's items to an account it's never had contact with, or a sudden change in IP followed by item gifting or trade.
