I am quite sure he has another account. It could be just a mod, and it could also be another user like you and I. He is most likely making items after items just for himself.

You make it sound like earning actual real money is easy by itself though. At least when compared to Gaia gold. Can't say I agree with you there. What is fair and what is not is highly subjective.
I am pretty sure they can find another on a banned account. Since I am pretty sure there are at least a few out there somewhere.
