Beginner Tips?

Do you have an suggestion for Dota 2 playing?
I played Dota back when and the versions that were made for Starcraft 2 and I picked up League recently but Dota 2 confuses me somewhat. I started by playing bot matches but I don't feel like I'm getting the hang of much.

Start by playing easy heroes like dragon knight against bots to gain some confidence and get a hang on the mechanics, then find a the one that suits you and start reading guides/watching youtube vids/streams.

Most of the "recommended items" (the ones in the store screen) aren't really good sets.
Looking up a build on internet is usually a good idea.

Uh, know your role in the game. (Ganker, Pusher, Carry...)

Try to pair up with another guy on the side lanes (2 top, 1 middle, 2 bot; Usually, unless someone is jungling,) Try to pair up so that it's Ranged+Melee. Make sure your partner actually talks/types to you, and doesn't speak some other language you can't understand.

Protip: Don't die.

Seriously. Dying makes the whole game a lot harder. Learn to not die and you can win games ez.

If you search for tutorials on YouTube, there are a ton. The ones by DotaCinema will probably be most useful. You need to get into the mindset of how to play the game, since the genre is so unlike other games you've played. There is so much "meta game," like how to level your skills and which items to buy and countering other heroes, that you don't deal with in other games. The tutorials will help you with this.

Definitely play against bots on the easiest setting (Play -> Create a Lobby -> Settings -> Fill empty slots with bots).

Learn to play support heroes. Most new players seem to have the mindset that your hero is always a carry and you have to have more kills than deaths and you have to be a tank that rolls their team. You aren't. Most of the heroes in the game can't become tanks. There is more to the game than being a level 100 Mewtwo. Supports support the carry. They don't carry themselves. You play differently depending on if you're a support or a carry, and the tutorials will cover what to do.

A hero that is easy for new players to grasp: Drow Ranger

1: Until you know what you are doing, Buy all of your starter items. They are listed since its what you can buy with all of your gold you start with.
2: Learn what your character needs based on your playing style, If you have issues with life, start rounds with an HP regen ring (400 gold) If you have issues with mana, Get mana regen shit, If you use minions, USE THOSE DAMN AURAS!
3: Play randoms until you find a character that suits you.
4: Communicate with your allies and watch the fucking map. No sense in driving if you dont use turn signals or know where the other cars are!
5: Getting ass kicked by opponents who are pushing? Go in the jungle and kill wild monsters for gold until you can push further~!
6: Dont turret dive until you are at least level 10-15 Or have stun.

It might not be this simple. You may just be playing the hero wrong, such as casting way more than you should be. If you play the hero correctly, you can buy items to improve your stats, offense, and survivability instead of having to buy regen.

New players should always look up skill and item builds on YouTube before playing a hero they haven't tried before.
