Vinyl and Cassettes : Go back?

Music industry has suggested several time that we should revert to analog and the formats associated with it to prevent "piracy". Several artists have run with it on new releases and the industry re-introduced vinyl two years ago and the sales there of sky rocketed. Its impossible/expensive to pirate a record with out a lot of effort and you don't end up with a record, just a poor audio recording there of. Cassettes can be pirated and were in the 60s,70s,80s but the equipment to do so isn't that available any more. Vinyl and cassettes are an attractive option to the industry but what about people? There is a nostalgia aspect in this but perhaps a more important aspect is the fact digital music changes the frequency at which the recordings are captured and played back and analog is at the natural frequency of amplifiers. You also can consider no two records or cassettes are alike for various reasons, but cd are exact copies. People get more bang for their buck with a record. There is a huge case, tons of art, often a book and cover sheets, at times other trinkets, and there is smell of new vinyl. For older music cassettes and vinyl often not only a true sound but also an experience. Many artist used the fact you had to flip a record or cassette in their album production and some used the encoding process of album and cassettes to add flair to tracks, something one can't do with a cd.
Still cds provide a pristine silent delivery of sound. They can in theory hold more thought they don't usually have any more track on them. Cds can be produced quickly and cheaply and in some places have had their prices cut to $2.
How you evaluate these facts is up to you, so what's your opinion?

If this did indeed happen, I don't think many music fans would be very happy.

I'd rather not be forced to carry around 8 gigs worth of cassette tapes to be able to listen to my favorite music on the go.

And, how would I get the music onto my computer?
Music on the internet would come to a complete standstill, bankrupting many online companies.
If they still sold it online, it would still be pirated. Somebody would create a site where people donated, he bought the popular stuff they wanted, and torrented it for all.

There is no way to stop it without removing music as an option on computers.

That's the point of going back. Music would be removed from the digital realm. Obviously you'd still have digital of all the music released up till that point. I think it'd be cool honestly.

Again, I'd really rather listen to my old shit than be forced to carry around a hundred cassette tapes.

I totally agree with you coffincase.The points that you have discussed are perfectly right.

hmmm i still got some lp's and my dad told me he got some casettes of nuclear assault and dark angel for me
but tbh i prefer lp's than cd's :p

Vinyl is for collectors and hipsters.
Cassettes are for Steve Albini.
The entire point of a digitial audio format is its portability and practicality. Music sales would drop if digital formats were discontinued because everyone's used to having stuff on their ipods, record stores suck donkey dong, and I find it hard to believe that anyone would prefer to only listen to their favorite bands at home or in stores if they're lucky.

The music industry is full of a bunch of idiots with a lot of money who are upset that they're now getting screwed over like the artists they were cheating out of money in the first place. They have a long ways to go before they reach the same level as their employees, though.

Actually I have a digital converter for record albums. Looks just like a record player that hooks up to your computer. We also have one for cassettes somewhere in this house.
I have many old vinyl records/cassettes that used to belong to my dad and mom. I love them. Play them more than CDs.

Seems they are just making something retro. People in this generation seem to like more retro things.
