Custom forum plugins?

I just came up with this, not really sure how or why. I just think it could be something that could bring us new users and stuff, being how unique it is.

What I was thinking:

Maybe we integrate Gaia, or other online games or something, into the little information section under each person's username. Where it says "Location: Posts: Rep: LGG:" and all of that (where your avatar is and everything), maybe we could add some optional things like "Gaia Gold:" and on your profile you could put in your Gaia Username and it would fetch your current amount of Gaia Gold and stuff, kind of like how you put in your AIM and MSN usernames and all of that. We could add support for a number of games, but you would only be able to display like one or two at a time.

Like, for example, displaying your Gaia Gold and your Manahaven Gold or something. Or, you could choose what to display. Instead of displaying Gaia Gold, you could select an option for Gaia Cash or something like that.

Of course, this might require the user to log in or something like that, so I'm not sure how feasible this is, it's just an idea.

I understand if it wouldn't work, so I would understand if this gets rejected haha.

That's an interesting idea. I'm sitting on a bench during my lunch break right now. But when I'm back at a computer I'll start working on a plugin. What IM service do you use? I'll add you on there.

Right now I mostly only use Steam, because I always forget to check other IM services.

Do you have a steam that you could use? If not, I could always install Skype or MSN or something, whatever you want to do.

I've considered adding Gaia username as a profile field, but this being a site that does include hacking information on Gaia, I'm afraid Gaia staff might just blanket ban any account they see listed here as a member owning.

That's a good point. For now I'll just have it fetch gold and not display username publicly. Or give a user the option to share their username with their friendslist, etc.

I guess if you're into making plugins. I loathe vB plugins.
But if you're really into doing it, can you make it based on custom profile fields? Maybe something that edits how custom profile fields are displayed. Converting "My Username" to, well, their gold in all displays of that custom field value (except for editing the value, of course).

So I imagine it'd have something like an input of "What is the name of the field?" since custom fields are named field#, and it does the rest.

I'd put it just below the LGG field, so mimicking it.

Sounds cool, but how could you fetch a user's gold without having them being logged into their account?

I don't know much about Gaia. If their gold is displayed on their profile or in any API or publicly-accessible page, it's retrievable. If not, there's not much that can be done there.
