Disable Post Counts in Gaia Online Trading

To decrease spam. There really is no need for post counts in there anyway. It's not exactly a discussion. You don't need to influence people to post there by 'rewarding' them with post counts. Their reward is that they get their account sold or buy an account that they want, so there is still incentive to post there. So I see no reason post counts should be enabled. It's just attracting spam out the ass. For example, the "selling rare name topic," where 9 million people posted asking for a PM of the name. Including someone with 2 posts and 500 LGG, when the account was stated as being sold for 10k LGG minimum.

So, decrease spam, disable posts in trading, lose no activity.

I personally agree, but almost every person using that forum will most likely complain. Seems to me that that is where a lot of people get their 50 posts for UG bronze, so they'd just complain the hell out of this.

Well then, that just shows his point further.
If you're getting 50 posts from a trading forum before you have enough LG to trade (because you have less than 50 posts) then you are obviously spamming.

I cant agree with this suggestion. It was suggested so many times on the old LG. ALl it would mean is spamming in other areas. Stopping spam in any area of the site would mean causing spamming in another section. and we cant disable the post count in every section of the site, just to try and stop spamming. the most that can be done is that it gets monitored a little bit better in the future. Cause it wont stop spam, it will just breed spam in another area.

Okay, this is what happens, mods get appointed, spam stops for a short time until it explodes. Ask any former or current staff that was around in LG1.0, that spam never stops, and so long as it is easy to get to hacks or programs, the spam will never stop, and it will always find a place to spam. Close one window and 2 doors open.

That was LG1.0, where posts were intellectual spam, now it's all retard spam, it'll be easy to distinguish.
Also, whenever I'm on LG, I go on for long periods (3-5 hours), I'm sure mods are on as much as me, they'll just do a quick infraction run around LG every couple of hours, shit will be easy.

I disagree... I think if you stopped the post counts in the trade section, not only would that section be practically unused, but people would spam the Gaiaonline general section.

It's not that they use the trading section to spam, they use whatever section is easiest to spam. And that often changes.

No, it's usually trading section that will be spammed.
For example, you bid in a thread, but you do the dumbest fucking bids that will never be accepted, just for post count. :/
Let me give you an example.
User 1 talks to User 2 over msn.
They go into trading section, one posts 10k
other posts 10.1k
first posts 10.2k
and it goes on, then they both stop posting and let someone else post a reasonable bid and win the item, they both make like 1000+ in LGG and don't have to pay for the item.

No, but we can disable post counts in areas of the site that don't need post count. The trading section isn't a discussion forum. Posts made in it aren't contributions to the website, unlike General Discussion. A post count, in its raw form, is just a count of contributions you've made. Posting to GD, Debate, etc. is contributing material to the website for others to read and interact with. Posting to the Junkyard or Gaia Trading Section doesn't contribute anything, post-wise - what is contributed (the account) is contributed with or without post count. Once the account is traded, the topic is over, and has no use ever again. Anyone reading the topic a month from now will gain nothing from it, whereas a topic in, say, Debate, if you were to read a topic a year from now, it would still be just as valid and persuasive as it was when it was created.
With or without spam, there doesn't need to be post counts there. It's the spam that makes it a deal worth addressing.

If someone is only using the trading section for post count, then they're spamming. That's seriously all there is to it. If you have accounts to sell, you will sell them. The reward is a lot of LGG that you can spend on whatever. People don't sell or buy for post counts, and if they do, they're spamming.

It would be like disabling post count in any other part of the site just because of a small amount of spam. and considering the fact that spam isnt that bad to start with right now, why worry until it is completely unmanagable?

Err, they shouldn't be getting all their post count from trading in the first place. Your argument is flawed and is illogical.

I don't agree if post count is took off of trading its gonna be very hard to earn post count and the gaia section barely has anything to talk about.

How is my argument flawed and illogical? There are people that only post in that section, and dont spam. In fact, the trading section is one of the places that the definition of spam is slightly blurred.

Unless one of the main things that you do on LG is sell accounts, then you have no way to really get a lot of posts, if any at all.

Disabling post count in any section is retarded unless there is an overwhelming need for it. If post count is going to be disabled, then it should be removed completely and put in the JY, along with every other trading section on the site under a subforum in the JunkYard.

But then again, you can't possibly be getting all your posts in the trade section starting at zero. No offense, but I will never trade with someone that has 3 posts and just started posting in the trade section that way. You need to be credible. And whether people like it or not, that comes with a higher post count.

i have to agree with the whole post count thing. The more post count you have the more you are trusted.

but that adds to my point. if you only post in the trading section, and rarely else where, then you wont get trusted by anyone and no one will buy unless you have like 80 positive iTraders.

But that's the point. By doing that you'd actually be forced to contribute elsewhere on the site, making other sections more active. Alternatively, you can say this will cause more spam, but finding more moderators for some sections wouldn't be that hard.

Hypothetically imagine that the Junkyard had post count enabled. "If you remove the post count, then people that only get their post count from Junkyard will have no way to get more count." There shouldn't be post count there in the first place. And as is, it's the easiest place to spam with bullshit offers. "Here's a 100k account. Bid!" "500 lgg." It's spammed out the ass, which - as I've stated - is merely the icing on the cake when there shouldn't be post count in that forum anyway.

Find one post of mine in the trading section. And before you think i spam at all, ask anyone how much i hate spammers. dont ever compare to that scum.

And since you want to get rid of post count, its just like another part that doesnt matter. An entirely new section called just trading could be made too, with a section to request a MM to help you with your trade, no post count there either. There are many ways to make it work, but lets face it, if Alex wanted it that way it would be that way. And i know the next argument, its a suggestion to make the site better, but if it hasnt been implemented back when spam was in every section of the site, its not going to be now when its practically dead 24/7.

actually think about. dont just think on post count, but actually use logic, not what you think is logic.

there should be a rule that unless your post is a certain ammount of words then it doesn't count as far as post count goes to stop with all the good luck and and "bump" posts.

The problem is safe spam. Bidding 1k in a trade isn't against the rules. It's just pointless and obviously done to increase post count.

Just because they have no postcount does not invite/encourage spam. See anyone spamming in them? Report them still. Closed.
