Sorry if I repeated this discussion, haven't bothered checking. So state what side you're on and why? I personally prefer PC because I pretty much grew up using this and I don't like over expensive items that aren't really that good.
Let the discussion begin.

1. Macs are PC's.
2. Linux is master race, but everything good is made for Windows.
3. OSX is decent I guess for situations where simplicity and stupid ease of use is a priority, but for that reason I would expect it to be inexpensive. It's not.
4. The hardware that comes in Apple products is always behind the curve (5770's in their most hi-tech product?).
5. Just fuck you don't give apple your money.

Well I'm the exact opposite, I grew up with Macintosh computers since my dad hates any non-Apple electronics. xD
So I guess Mac OS X will always be my first choice. But sometimes I'd like a more capable computer for less money. D:

PC. Mac costs more to remove features. It's great for people new to computing, but the learning curve is small as shit. If you care to actually harness the full potential of a machine, PC all the way. And so importantly, the price difference. I mean, come on.

Er, I'm not sure you can actually harness the "full power" of a machine using Windows. Most servers/machines run on Linux. Windows isn't really 'pure' computing. And given the deployment of Windows 8, the Windows OS is probably further from that plateau as it's ever been.
Personally haven't used Windows 8, but I hear it's almost as restrictive as OS X. Other than that, Windows > Mac all day.Last edited by The Unintelligible; 21 Jan. 2013 at 06:52pm.

Probably until it's two generations out of date.
Hmm. I was planning on getting a nice new computer to celebrate grad school next year. But no way I'd get Windows 8, and I bet there'd be a Windows 9 by the time it'd be outdated. I hope they fix Windows 8 so that it makes a valid alternative to 7 so that I can get it for better software extensibility. I think they at least finally let Steam integrate well into it, which was my biggest concern, but I still question the intuitiveness of its other features.

That's pretty much what's wrong with it. It's a minimalistic, portable OS. On a desktop. It's great for phones, but not monitors -- or really any interface that isn't a touch screen. It's not the worst, but it's not intuitive nor advanced. With such an interface, there is a lot you can't do that you should be able to do on a desktop machine. This isn't a phone, so treating the design and features as if they are for a phone won't create a good product.
It might end up being fine. The concern may all just be fear of change. But a lot of beta testers and developers how complained about how much more difficult it makes things, or how limited it is in its capabilities.

Hackintosh with a Windows VM is the best option for me. For me, the os x operating system just works better. I'm not 100% sure why, but I'm just more productive. However, I can never get by with only running mac apps. Or even only running Windows apps. That's where the Windows VM comes into play. It's there when I need it. So I'm never truly stranded or limited by any one operating system.
Edit:
On the topic of Windows 8. I agree 100% that it's only useful on tablets and laptops. On a desktop, especially with a multi-monitor setup the charms system just doesn't cut it.// Signature

I bought a Windows 8 laptop for my mother and it's the worst fucking thing I've ever dealt with. Touch is overly response to the point that I can't even use it. She can but I can't. The whole setup seems very new user friendly but it feels like a giant middle finger to anyone that is used to Windows. I spent a few days trouble shooting errors and crap just because I put a bloody firewall and anit-virus on it. Of course it only took days because I kept trying to use the touch and it'd throw me from the desktop to the stupid "Start Menu".
I agree though, if they can get it to support stuff more readily while making the touch and general layout more intuitive to someone that has used Windows I'd be on board. I championed Vista and 7 for a long time because I never dealt with any of the issues people complained of.
