The question to the thread is the title.
Also don't get all mad and butt-hurt if someone debates with about your religion, don't take it seriously. Its a discussion, so keep it civilized.

For simplicity's sake I'm Roman Catholic but some of my standings are at odds with the Church, still I'm accepting of the label because when you actually read their official positions and don't just believe the out dated social perceptions they are very liberal in accommodating modernity, science, and rationalism.
I.e.: Bible is all metaphor not a word for word history and only the general meaning of stories is important; There is a high probability of life on other planets; You can use contraception; Its ok to be homosexual

If I would have to say I'm anything would say I'm an Agnostic Theist. Though technically I'm a lapsed Catholic.

I'd say i'm a Satanist i fully believe in the Devil but i don't worship the ground he walks on i just emphasize him and find him very interesting. I know some people here might go all mid-evil on me and judge me and hate on me because of my religious views, but don't judge by others religious view judge them by actions!

I'm agnostic. I believe that as humans we can't definitively know if there is or isn't a God. Though its possible there is a God I don't think it's probable. I do think there might be some sort of omnipresent being but not necessarily a omnipotent. Like a rhythm or a flow to the universe. There is so little we actually do know that I can't say there isn't a chance (albeit a rare one) that there might be something more out there. I don't believe there is a God but I don't deny the possibility of one or something like it. Logically I can't justify saying there isn't a God because I can't prove there isn't. Hopefully that makes some sense.

I don't know. Because if they didn't everyone would leave the church?
I'm not quite sure to be honest. Maybe they just realize taking the bible too literally would be a bad idea... Since it promotes a lot of things we wouldn't allow in a civil society.

There are actually a lot of people who believe in Satan. Christians, Catholics for instance. They all believe in Satan being real. They don't worship him, but they believe. As for worshiping Satan, there is the Black Church, the Church of Satan, and a LaVeyan Satanism.
Here is the wiki:
Church of Satan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Its not technically organized in any sense of comparison to Christianity or even Wicca. It might be a way of spirituality trship Satan, but its not organized.
But that doesn't explain why they should change their beliefs just like that. That makes them false priests almost.Voted Hottest Male Member

The catholic church grew and evolved with the rest of humanity. They still feel strongly about some views, the use of prophylactics and homosexuality. But because of dogmatic law they can alter the church stance without alterning the church. "As is on earth, as shall be in heaven"
Catholics are dissimilar to other Christians in that they accept evolution and science as a general part of life. Instead of believing in Adam and Eve they believe that god set in motion the framework he/she had established to create life. That he(or she) is that tiny blinking order in the chaos.
The church has its own observatories and actively funds research into the sciences.
And as far as Satanism goes, ehh I've met Satanists nicer than most Christians. Its a broad term describing a lot of different religions. There are even those among Catholics that revere the devil as an important counterweight. Satan never meant evil its root term means "appointed enemy" so its believed that to establish order and create a balance god tasked Lucifer with this role. Thus we get the term "Giving the devil his due"

You do know the church of Satan doesn't believe in Satan.
I'd be nice if you researched just a tad bit more next time.
Quoted from wiki:
Beliefs
The Church of Satan does not worship or support a belief in the Devil or other supernatural entities. "My real feeling is that anybody who believes in supernatural entities on some level is insane. Whether they believe in The Devil or God, they are abdicating reason," said Peter Gilmore.[3] Gilmore defines the word Satan: "Satan is a model or a mode of behavior. Satan in Hebrew means 'adversary' or 'opposer'; one who questions."[3]

Catholicism, like any faith is run by men. Men like power, Church had power. Church went crazy to maintain power. Truthfully, the Church has been lax since the second Vatican council in 1962. The collapse of summum bonum took some major re-adjustment. The last few Popes have actually been really well educated and promoted scientific research and such. John Paul II specifically made it his mission to modernize the Church realizing that the old archaic approach ostracized people for arguably no reason.
Heck the leaders of the Catholic Church sat down with the leaders of Hinduism and established both faiths worship the same God. The Church is working hard to throw off close minded restraints that power politics forced on it and is simply focusing on making a message of love and morality as accessible as possible.
Satanism not a recognized religion because there are a bunch of "Santanisms". Few of them really have any thing to do with Satan. Satanism is organized there are churches. I've been to a black mass. I've read the Satanic Bible by LaVey and all of Aleister Crowley's work. Crowley made Satanism what it is, don't care what the officials say, Crowley invented sex magik, espoused the indulgence of the self and equivalency and most of the practices that the occult use today long before LaVey wrote any thing down.
Honestly, I as a Christian don't believe in Satan(Church does, I don't). Satan represents a force equal to God, that God created...see the logic problem there? If God creates Satan then Satan is not as powerful as God ergo Satan can't win. Aside from the fact for God to be God, God must be goo and God therefore can't create or do evil, creating Satan is evil. On top of that main message of Christianity is God loves you more than is humanly possible, if that's true why would he send any one to "hell"?

I call this The Carlin Argument.
"He has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!
But He loves you."
Thats why my god is more of an old testament angry and vengeful type god. Where you do what he says or he finds a way to smite the shit out of ya.

I am Atheistic. I'm also open to the theory of reincarnation. Reincarnation because the theme of reincarnation is apparent in many different parts of the Universe. So if it's scientific law for all these things to happen around the universe, why doesn't it happen to creatures. I'm also a Taoist, which is not a religion though. It's a philosophy.

I'm an atheist. I believe that after I die I will go to an eternity of nothingness or respawn..

While it's true we can't prove or disprove the existing of a deity, I wouldn't class myself as an agnostic, or anything near that. I believe there is no God, and am therefore an atheist.

I can't pinpoint my religion. I believe there is a God that isn't in the form of man, rather it's just a name for a flow of energy. I don't think there's a name for it.

Hmmm, idk if theres a name or somes for it but,
I do believe there is a hell and a heaven but that's pretty much it.
and idk if its a teaching from a religion or somes but its something about the flow of energy that a person has, like if you always look out in life as a bad world then bad things will always happen, but if you look at it as a positive world, all the goods will come to you eventually. ooooo I also believe that if science can prove it then its real , but you cant really prove if theres a heaven or a hell but ya know ... :]
oh and that when i die, i will respawn as something else but only after i do my time for my no no'sLast edited by PunkRock482; 14 Jun. 2011 at 06:15am.

Religion is a huge issue within my family to the point where certain family members are shunned. Me included. My fathers side consists of a bunch of Christians who believe you may commit any crime so long as you pray to god. They believe that if you pray to God, you can get through anything, without helping yourself. They believe that medicine and doctors are going against God's will and that if it's meant for the person to heal, God will do so through prayer. Through this thinking, they managed to let a 4 year old bleed to death, and my beloved aunt to also die an avoidable drawn out death.
I was raised Catholic, but not strictly at all. I was told to believe in God, not to use his name in vain, and to treat people with respect as I would want to be treated.
This day; I am Agnostic, or playing it safe. I believe there's something after this life, but I don't think it consists of sitting on clouds in white togas. And most days, I believe everyone is their own god. And yes, that's a quote from Marilyn Mason.I am steady killin' fools.

How so? Islam is the second largest religion in the world and boasts about 1.6 billion practitioners or about 22 percent of the population. Statistically, not considering cultural hegemony, there should be more muslims on this forum than atheists, agnostics, and practitioners of spiritual new age religions combined.
