Ok motivator, want a real good way to get a mile faster? I run a mile 5min 38 seconds. Basically a really good way to decrease your run time is sprints. Do eight 100 meter sprints, followed by four 400 meter sprints, and one 800 meter sprint. Obviously you may need to build up to the 800, but it gets easier, basically the reasoning behind this is that you can sprint for longer and not tire as easy. Once you get built up till you can sprint the first 900 meters without really slowing down, do it everyday, or as often as possible. Also stretch out your strides, the longer your strides the more area you cover.
Semper Fit Basic Fitness Course
The link above is for an MCI that will lead you to some better ways to increase your fitness, get you up on what you need to do.
Semper Fit Advance Fitness Course
The second link will take you the more advanced of the two MCI courses on how to get into better shape.
Follow what I said, do not use weights unless it is a weight vest. Ankle weights are good for increasing your stride, but not much else. A weight vest covers your entire center of gravity and allows you to build weight resistance. A 40 - 50lbs vest will show massive differences.
Give it a try....Or don't. Its no sweat off of my sack.

I can answer any of the questions you might have about physical training. Also, I'm just going to leave this here for a more comprehensive, although difficult way to get faster. http://forum.logicalgamers.com/healt...tml#post221129
