I hear using the search tool for large searches uses alot of traffic/bandwith.

Yes, enough data can crash any website, as long as they aren't huge websites/corps.

of course; vbulletin isn't anything special, and all sites can crash.

Yes,all vbulletin is crashable.I have heard a lot also.
