RHCP didn't disband last year.. they're working a new album. John Frusciante left in December and Josh Klinghoffer is the new guitarist.
REM actually formed in 1980. Alice in Chains in 1987, Nirvana in 1987... A lot of the biggest bands of the nineties actually formed and toured during the late 80's, but only got mainstream recognition in the early to mid 90's.
I love most of the "90's bands" but my favourite is Nirvana. Pearl Jam are awesome too, I saw them live last year.

Frusciante left.
Chickenfoot has Chad and they are in the studio and have been on tour up till this point and are then going back on tour once finished.
Flea is running around with several bands.
So you have Anthony and the new guitarist. How are they making their cd or going to tour? They aren't they went in to the studio and things fell apart. Its not official but don't see them doing any thing for a good while if ever again.

LOL. If you read my post it says "John Frusciante left in December."
The Chili's played in January, at a tribute to Neil Young. So if they have time for that they have time to jam in the studio.
A lot of the cores of their songs came from Anthony and John on their own. Anthony would come with some words and/or melody and John would craft some guitar around it, once they showed this to Chad and Flea the rest just played out.

I follow them to, man. I know when he left.
Playing a gig isn't the same as making songs in the studio. Plus 9/10 odds say the gig was booked last year some time and bailing means losing a lot of money so they show up and play regardless of any thing else.
A band in shambles is long for the circuit. If they get an album out I'll be surprised, if its any good I'll be amazed.

I don't doubt that, you just told me he left when I already had stated it.
It was like one song, I don't think they would give a shit about the money. They just wanted to honor Neil Young, and since they hadn't played for a while as a band it was a good chance.
I'm still reading reports saying they're in the studio, with a possible album release late this year.
All of the members of the Foo Fighters are in side projects, and Them Crooked Vultures are touring, but they (FF) have about 15 songs they've been working on in the studio for their next album.
All because of side projects doesn't mean the "Main" band can't record. Tbh they could almost finish a song, and then Chad could just come in at the end and put drums in. It wouldn't work like that but it easily could.
