Ok, since it was turning the entire tide of the God debate thread, its getting its own.
Do you believe that a person is born gay, or makes a conscious choice to be gay?

I believe we're born that way.
I've been attracted to guys ever since I watched the Disney movie Hercules at age 5.
I don't ever remember making a conscious choice to like men....

People are born that way. How that effect a debate about God is beyond me.
The Catholic stand point is people are born that way and may be that way, but they may not marry because marriage is a covenant between a man and a woman. It also discourages acting on homosexual feelings because of some verses in Leviticus but they pick and choose with the Old Testament.
So God made you gay, be gay.
- 27 Feb. 2010 07:48pm #4
Well you said that you wernt gay until you watched Hercules...Do you think that if you didn't watch Hercules then you woudn't be gay...I think its more or less if a choice...Thats my opinion right now

Buwahaha that's like saying if you hadn't seen that really hot girl on the street would you be straight? That's just when he noticed he was. Like the first time you noticed you had an attraction to the opposite gender. I find it hilarious when straight people don't understand and think it just suddenly happens like OH I want to bang the same sex, let's do this shit.
All hail kitty pig.

Clov3r answered for me xD
Yeah, Hercules is was just my first like... crush? If I hadn't watched it I would have had a different other same-sex crush.
It's not that I saw hercules and decided I wanted to be attracted to him O_O You can't decide what arouses you. Ever heard of fetishes?
- 27 Feb. 2010 10:22pm #7
CLOV3R covered that pretty well. There's a huge difference between "when you become gay" and "when you noticed you were gay." There is a time in most people's lives when they think the opposite gender is gross and has cooties. Does that mean you're gay until X years old when you start becoming attracted to them? Not at all. It means your sexuality hasn't developed. Sexuality doesn't hit you like a brick wall either. You aren't just sitting there, and BAM, you want to go have sex with a woman. Whoever Kojinako is talking about just didn't happen to notice until they watched Hercules.
The evidence for prenatal hormones and their influence on sexuality is astounding. It's not even just one thing that somebody noticed. It's a huge combination of factors, all of which point to prenatal hormone exposure. Really, anybody that denies it is so biased... Well, I should say, homophobic. And if you're homophobic, that's a completely different topic that is huge lulz in itself, and of course you'll want it to be a choice.
And anyone who knows what causes homophobia will know why homophobes want sexuality to be a choice.
- 28 Feb. 2010 02:35pm #8
I think people are born gay... Its not a choice. In saying that though, you can try different things, but it may not be right. Your sexual orientation i beleive is at birth.
- 01 Mar. 2010 01:01am #9
I don't think that ppl are born gay, it's a concious choice. That study actually proved that men are more effeminate, not gay, there's a big difference.
- 01 Mar. 2010 01:10am #10
I'm not sure, I think maybe born? I mean I'm bi-sexual, I've always thought that some guys were handsome and some girls were cute, almost all of my life- but mostly at around age 14-15.
So yea...Born is my answer. I'm locking it in, *Pushes a button*

I believe it's born. Why would you want to choose if you know you'll be hated by millions or so because of their religion or just because they think you'll hit on them?

lol, I know right?
what makes you say, I think I want penis today... its not a choice lmao.
- 01 Mar. 2010 11:15pm #17
I think you're born that way, I've liked women since I was a kid, I always looked up to the "dominate" female character in a story, I've like looking at them since forever. I'm a girl btw.
I don't want this, it just is.
Saying that it's a choice is close minded and unreasonable. Straight people didn't choose to be straight, it just is.LG's Dyke. Enough. Said.
- 01 Mar. 2010 11:44pm #18
I believe you are born with it. Not like it is a disorder or something, I believe that certain genes make you like certain looks. Or organs.

saying that its a choice isn't saying its bad. i mean i still believe that it is up to the person and that they shouldn't be persecuted because of the choice they make, but i believe strongly that it is a choice. one of my best friends was gay. he wasn't just going through a phase, he thought he really liked guys. 3 years later he is now married to a woman with a 1 year old daughter. its a choice. if anything you may be born with a different kind of sex drive that makes you just wanna do anyone.

From the scientific stand point its not a choice though we never found the gay gene, and if we look at animals in general rather than just humans we find homosexuality to be a natural means of birth control. Population gets too high and there are not enough resources and you get the males of the species pairing up in homosexual relationships. In some cases it's from birth in others it has to do with the environment, resource and/or mate shortage. An since we are in the end just animals I believe its the same for us, we changed the way our population curve looked a few hundred years ago and now from a natural stand point we're grossly over populated so it would make since that nature would kick in and you'd have homosexuals that aren't so by choice. You do have homosexuals by choice and its no the first time either. The greek used to think it was perfectly except able to seek pleasure with either sex simple cause it felt good...though they also said old guys could take small children as their life partners.
So my general conclusion is its both, but never in the same case. Some people are born that way others choose it as a matter of experimentation. Do what you want or what comes natural, just keep it at home. I don't wear clothes that mark me as straight ,wave flags, or have parades I keep my sexuality to my self till asked and that's how it ought to be. Sure the homosexuals are a tad repressed but really its not that bad aside from flak from the homophobes who aren't going to go away. I say get over yourself and be yourself. If you're truly doing that and are comfortable with who you are you don't have to draw attention to yourself the way some of them do. An that's all I got to say about that.
- 03 Mar. 2010 10:09am #24
According to me we are born that way. I am not gay. But studies have revealed that some people are born gay. I mean when you become of age you dont sit on a chair scratch your temple and think Am i gay or Am i not?. Your feelings direct you your brain is useless and helpless in this matter . Many a times the person in front of you also has an impact on this fact
- 03 Mar. 2010 01:32pm #25
You obviously didn't read the studies. There are more than one. I like how you specified which one you were talking about and conveniently didn't mention the countless others that disagree with you.
That's called bisexuality. Sexuality isn't black and white. It's a gray area - a gradient. You can be anything in between.

I strongly do believe that being gay , you are born that way.
Just as straight people. they didnt CHOOSE their sexuality.
- 03 Apr. 2010 05:30pm #28
they had a conscious choice. people were not born gay

Recent studies suggest that the brains of gay men are slightly different to heterosexual men's, suggesting that being gay may be physical, rather than environmental.
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Funny stuff is funny becouse it's true
- 04 Apr. 2010 09:19am #31
Born gay i think. Conscious just adds to it afterwards.
- 20 Apr. 2010 11:09pm #32
I have a friend that was abandoned and had been left in the adoption home until 2 gay guys decided to pick him up..
He's now gay.
I really don't know how that works or maybe it's just seeing how the people you live with makes you want to be more like them?
- 20 Apr. 2010 11:15pm #33
look at it like this. im straight. i could be gay if i wanted to. but i'm not. was i born straight? no, i wasn't born gay either. everyone has a choice. its not a disease.

Ok, no. You're viewing attraction has just "I could have sex with this person."
But no, gay people are NOT ATTRACTED TO THE OPPOSITE SEX, you are, and you're NOT attracted to the same sex.
Therefore, no, you could not just "decide" to be gay. You could decide to have a relationship with a male, but you'd still be straight.
- 20 Apr. 2010 11:31pm #35
the strange thing is, every gay guy i know/ have known (quite a few) have all at some point in their life dated or thought about dating a girl. gotta be some attraction there. and no i haven't lived your life so no i don't know for a fact, but you most likely at some point in your life have been attracted to a girl before. just like most guys are at some point in their life attracted to a guy. most just ignore it and move on but some (homosexuals) go for it. its a choice whether you argue about it or not.

Ok, of course we're gonna act like we think girls are hot. We know most people are idiots that think we're doing it as a choice and reject us and stuff. Any gay guy who has dated a girl or thought about dating one was doing it, not because they thought the girl was attractive, but because society says, "boys date girls."
If you're not gay, then you don't know. You can't say, "You guys are gay because of _______" becuase:
a. YOU DONT KNOW
b. YOUR OPINION is not your god's. Therefore, it's the opinion of a "sinner" which could be lying.
- 20 Apr. 2010 11:55pm #37
why you bringing god into it first of all? has nothing to with him or sinning. yea if your a christian, then homosesxuality is a sin, but im not even saying anything about that. and homos could just as easily be LYING as we can.

Yes, but do I care about what the Bible says? nope. Do YOU? you should if you're a christian.
Every nonchristian has a right to use the bible against a christian.
But yes, Gay people aren't just "Dating" the same sex. They're sexually attracted to them and NOT sexually attracted to the opposite sex.
Hence homosexuality, not the homo-dating lifestyle.
- 21 Apr. 2010 12:12am #39
alright i refuse to debate with you ever again. all you do is randomly make up shit and make it look like the other person is saying something they aren't. my opinion is that its a choice. yours is that it isn't. agree to disagree. have a good day.
