Uhm, sorry COFFIN, but Linkin' Park is NOT punk. If anything, they're mainstream rock.
At least now anyway. But with their type of mix rock and rap, they are definitely not punk.
Punk includes stuff like
The Offspring, Against Me!, Anti- Anything, The Aquabats, Beastie Boys, etc. etc.

No, you are not going to call Linkin Park rock. They didn't even use full chords till the guitarist was shamed into learn something besides power chord, solos were introduced late after the guitarist learn scales because the general opinion of every other musician was "This kid sucks", they do not classify as rock according to what rock was, maybe the qualify as the terrible shit you people call rock today. I don't listen to no f'in terrible modern punk, but I've heard the Beastie Boys and The Aquabats, they could be punk I don't see them that way because they sound nothing like punk in terms of my definition which is "Do you sound like Iggy Pop?". If any thing I'd call the Beastie Boys a rap group using a guitar and techno sounds.
The only reason you think Linkin Park aren't punk is because guitarist went on hiatus and learned to actually play and then came back and started playing different styles to their same stuff. They are just a glorified punk band. You don't want them to be then call the the other name punk uses: alt. rock.
Side note: Rock should never be main stream. Mainstream rock is f'in Journey and that f'in sucks. Real rock should be loud and offend you delicate sensibilities. Rock is the devil's music and it always will be.
Side side note(on topic): Definitely not a fan of your metal bands or any modern metal since its all terrible. Its not about any thing the music isn't creative. They turned metal in to heavy punk and screamo and I can't stand that. Metal wasn't a pure rhythmic style originally, it was expressive and required skill rather than just keeping a 16th note beat on a palm muted string and then playing the one exotic scale you know and hammering on a triplet. You want metal? Go pull up Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio, Judas Priest, Motley Crew, Motorhead, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, Ratt, Skid Row, Accept, Sweet, and Extreme. You want sell out metal go listen to Poison. You want metal's origin? Go listen to Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" and "Dazed and Confused".
Sabbath's first CD was the invention of heavy metal. Rainbow, Judas, and Dio took it further and Sabbath caught up and pushed if a bit more. The rest are just from the glory days of metal in all its forms except death/black. Though I'd credit Sabbath and Dio for making it possible for death metal to exist.
