We should be able to lock/unlock our own threads.
It would be mucho goodo.

So that when you start getting flamed you can lock your own thread even if you started it?
Fuck that. You(not you specifically) get what you deserve...
Locking our own threads has one benefit, stopping spam, which it won't even do. So... My view, strong no.
As for the unlock, no in general.

thats what mods are for, and even though there are not really any mods ATM, when they get appointed by Alex that will be their job, and besides, it wouldnt be used in the right way and people would complain that its too hard to understand (i know, i know a retarded monkey with no fingers could do it but hey, we're LG, we have humans that are more retarded than a monkey with Down Syndrom).
Leave it to the mods (when they get picked) its their job to keep order the right way, not letting the people govern themselves, because then it just causes problems.
If it were to be utilzed in the right way, sure, its great, but it wouldnt be, so its not the best idea.Voted Hottest Male Member

The idea is mainly for threads you want to lock.
I mean for instance I opened a shop and I have to close it, I would like to lock it to prevent people from wasting time and attempting to order something.
Though I do plan to re-open the store soon.
As for the unlocking, there should be 2 levels of lock/unlock. One for the creator and one for any mod levels or above the mod level of course over writes anything I do.
I do not think it is ok to ask a mod every time you need to lock/unlock your thread for your own personal reasons.
As for flamming, I dislike to flame and if anyone flames me I would very much like to lock the thread to prevent myself from getting into an argument.

I've needed over 5 of my own threads to be closed so far.
You think that everyone should P.M. moderators to close their own threads?
If so you are stupid.
Let's put you in charge of that and every time it takes you longer than 5 minutes after the P.M. to close the thread you owe LG $1.
You willing to take that position? Hell no you are not, there is not enough time or drive to close every thread needed to be closed for personal reasons.
- 20 Nov. 2009 12:30pm #12
You know you just insulted everyone on this thread? Yes, you ShOULD PM the mods, why? Because it's THEIR job, not yours. There was no sense in insulting anyone by saying they're stupid. K?
Mods take up that position for a reason. We don't need some smartass to tell us that we need to do their job. K?
Who gives a shit about YOUR money? Quit focusing on yourself. This is about the BIG picture, not you. Why the FUCK would we pay LG for closing your thread? Your thread has absolutely NO reason to be closed. Give me ONE fucking reason.
Don't say "oh because the deal was done" or stupid shit like that. If the deal is done, you should just either say it's done, or have the person who finishes the deal post that it is done. K?
Respect the leadership and others or gtfo.

I say no, indefinitely on this subject.
It would or could be abused by members.
Someone could say something offending someone and close the thread before anyone could say anything about it.

You wouldn't ever close my thread.
The idea is to close your own threads smart one.
and leadership, there are no moderators congratulations. Artificial ain't going to be on for a while. In that time look, oops no moderators to close the thread.
-Applauds- See how well your method works?
Look I want to close my own thread because it is a waist of space for it to be open, I should have the right to do that.
There is no power issue or anything, It is as simple as I opened the thread why can't I close it.
So before you go making yourself look so smart one more time, how about you chill out and learn how to respect people.
I did not call anyone stupid, I merely mentioned that because nobody has stated a reason that actual substantiated their idea other than "Lul moderator job!!!1", before you bash me for calling people stupid how about you take a look in the mirror.
When it is not a moderators job to close threads that are perfectly fine.
@Izzy
If anything this reduces spam, next time post a reason.

I see where you get the idea for this, but it should be reserved for mods and admins only and maybe gold UG. If you need a thread closed you can just ask one of them.

First thing is first, it is a moderators job as BooBearsh said. If a moderator doesnt do his job, chaos erupts, you know nothing of what that is like. LG went without mods for months and was looking like shit because of it, so when the mods were appointed we took the job seriously. within a week LG was running at top speed with maximal user preface.
we were hard on members that spammed and even harder on those that broke the rules.
Dont think that you know what the job entails, or what we do/did as mods. The job requires the need of being hard on members but knowing when to do it.
No normal member needs to have that power. All it does is cause problems between members and gives it too easy of an excuse to flame someone and then close the thread yourself to stop a retort.
Its not needed. Period.Voted Hottest Male Member

So it's better to fill your thread full of flaming, rather than close the thread.
No it is not needed, but neither is the ability to post, or to private message, or to comment a profile, or to add an avatar.
They are all things that help in some way.
Sure you will have some issues with flaming, I have no doubt, but weighed with the fact that it is sometimes necessary or at-least close to that to close a thread having it is a better idea.
Like I stated before, I do not like to fight much, this is more of a debate right now so do not take me as attempting to be rude (Except with Boo.)
I have needed to close a thread if I had the ability it would have prevented 5 posts from being made.
5 meaningless posts, spam, call it what you wish. It would prevent future need to post in the thread.
Pros -
Close old unused topics.
Close stores.
Close finish polls.
Close finished games.
Close topic for personal reasons.
Cons -
May cause flaming?
It's not my decision to make, I just thought I would put my idea out there, let's see what the Admins have to say.
- 20 Nov. 2009 05:43pm #22
I think maybe you could have this permission, only in certain forums. Wouldn't matter in JY or GD or any of that, maybe just so you can close your own shops or something? Not a bad idea.
- 20 Nov. 2009 09:29pm #23
I disagree.
Not to be rude, but...
What are mods for then?

Mods are to keep order and keep members in line, stop spam, prevent possible e-drama, and to clarify things for new members in a fuller way. Closing threads, infracting members/warning members, and disciplining members is the job of mods.
the power may be a good idea in forums like the JY(especially), and maybe the GD, but not many other places, just as Shane said.Voted Hottest Male Member

Actually, if it were ONLY shops and trading, I'd agree to it. If this were applied to all of the forums; I'd give a resounding no. Say there's a discussion going in the... well general discussion forum, and then someone starts flaming even though others are ACTUALLY discussing something, thread creator goes "oh well, let's close this thread," that would just annoy the piss out of anyone who was actually participating in active conversation. So, yeah, shops and trading is where I'd limit it.
